RANT WARNING!! DISCLAIMER: This is not meant to hurt or offend. I'm just offering my (likely unpopular) opinion on an issue that's been on my mind lately. I'm not encouraging anybody to discriminate against people of any body type. Just like you wouldn't go up to someone and tell them that they're too fat, you SHOULD NOT go up to someone and say they're unhealthily skinny. It's just rude. NOTE: if you have an ED, please don't continue reading. Although it sounds like I'm glorifying being skeletal, I'm really not. If you're concerned for your own or someone else's wellbeing, please contact a professional. For some reason, even though I'm only 5'2", I'm almost always the tallest one out of all my friends. Unfortunately, fate has chosen me to be the widest as well. If anyone can relate, they know it feels really bad to be the biggest one in the friend group (I'm a 5'2", 100-pound girl with a flat chest and big thighs, so like I said before, it's always me). Everybody around me complains about how they're "so fat" and "chubby." This is the first topic I will be addressing. First of all, no, you're not fat. If you want to see fat, look at me. You don't get to complain about being fat unless you are most definitely overweight, and even then, if you're skinnier than the person you're talking to, your point is invalid. Second of all, do you know how rude it is to be telling people about how heavy you are, even though I (a person MUCH heavier than you), am the one you're talking to? If you're fat, what does that make me? What world are you living in, airhead? There's a reason clothing companies are increasing the width of clothes while lowering the size on the tag. Being called slim by anyone (even a pair of pants) is a high compliment. Wanna know why? Because in our world today, slim is considered beautiful. When you call yourself fat in the presence of someone with much more fat than you, think about how you may be making them feel. Now, for the second topic! People always say how "they hate being skinny / underweight." They shouldn't complain. One is not allowed to lament about how hard it is to have the most conventionally attractive body type. All my life, I’ve just wanted to be slim (read, “attractive,”) like you, so don’t come to me with your “fat girl problems.” You don’t have any. When you’re skinny, you can eat whatever you want and not gain weight. You can skimp out on exercise, because you’re not doing it to lose weight; you’re just doing it to keep yourself healthy. WOW, it must be so hard on you to not look like a fricking WHALE every day! Tell me again how your light-speed metabolism is such a burden in your life! I have to cut my serving sizes just so I an look like a normal person. I have to only drink water at every meal so I don’t absorb any extra calories. I have to watch what I eat and resist the hunger every single blasted day, while you can eat whenever and whatever you like. I’m all for not discriminating against body types and not making uncalled-for comments on a person’s figure, but blast it- it’s really hurtful when some naturally slim person comes up to you and starts moaning and groaning about how “fat” they are. To all the naturally skinny people out there- yes, I’m looking at YOU- please quit whining about how your life is so hard. You know nothing about being fat. TL;DR: If you're not unhealthy, don't complain about your weight. If you have an opinion, please share it in the comments! I'm always open to debate, so if you want to, I'd be happy to have a CIVIL CONVERSATION with you!
