So that means that you should always feel safe! 'Ya know, I would say something inspirational but that's just not my forte.' 'Greetings and salutations!' BACKBIRDS STORY Backbirds is about a future where everyone is ‘cleansed of impurity’. Everyone looks perfect, speaks perfectly, has perfect intelligence and is fearless. However, as teenagers start to approach adulthood an imbalance in hormonal activity can very rarely turn some teenagers impure. Instead of supporting and helping them the officials toss them aside into the entertainment industry, into a sport called ‘Backbirding’. The athletes are known as ‘Backbirds’ and they have to mechanically modify themselves to suit the sport - the sport is a ruthless power struggle. In teams of 3, backbirds must force their way from one end of the arena to the next. They each start in rooms with an opponent. For the room to be unlocked an opponent has to be killed, and as the amount of backbirds get smaller and more backbirds are killed and more rooms are unlocked the surviving 5 are released into one pitch black large room where they must race to the white light at the end of the room. If a backbirds reaches the end then their team wins. There is one team who has been going since the beginning of the games and two of its team members are still alive. An impure teen is sent to join the team and has to learn how to mechanically modify herself, as well as how to deal with the offstage personalities of Bibi and Effi, who’s real identities she does not know.
