SuperNova Chapter One: Character Intros Nova shifted uncomfortably among the group of fellow dragonets she was with as they waited for their orientation. She didn’t know what she was doing here at this fancy pants school. She didn’t want to be. “But you need to learn to be a proper, well behaved lady.” Nova’s father’s words rang in her and she sighed. It was this or boarding school, and at least this place wasn’t all girls. But why was she listening to her father anyway? It’s not like he was her real father. He was just some rich dragon who married her mom after her REAl dad died just so he could become more well respected. He was dumb, and stupid, and she hat-. Nova’s train of thought was cut off as someone bumped into her. Blinking, she looked over at the dragon who had bumped into her. She looked around Nova’s age, and her scales were a pinkish brown color, and had amber colored eyes. “Oh, sorry, I guess I just wasn’t paying attention.” she apologized. “It’s fine, I was just having a internal monologue.” Nova replied with a smirk. The other dragonet chuckled. “Glad I wasn’t interrupting anything important. Anyway, I’m Desertrose, but you can just call me Rose.” “Nice to meet you Rose. I’m Nova.” The two shook claws, and continued to talk for a bit, before Nova noticed someone out of the corner of her eye. He looked younger then her, maybe by a year, who had yellowish brown scales that were covered in dark brown spots, and whos bright jade colored eyes shone with nervousness. Feeling bad for him, seeing as he was one of the few dragonets who wasn’t talking to anyone, she waved him over. At first, he blinked at Nova in surprise, but he soon joined her and Rose. “U-um, hi?” he said fearfully, though Nova couldn’t tell if it was because he was nervous being here, because the two of them were larger then him, or for some other reason. “I’m O-ocelot”. Nova was about to reply to this, but Rose beat her to it. “Nice to meet you O-ocelot. I’m Desertrose, but just call me Rose, and this is Nova.” Nova smiled and Rose’s joke, but Ocelot just looked more nervous. “A-actually,” he began, “it’s just Ocel-” “Relax, it was just a joke.” Rose interrupted, playfully punching him in the shoulder, grinning. Ocelot laughed awkwardly,and flicked his tail, which happened to hit someone. Behind Ocelot, was a very tall dragonet whos scales appeared pure white. He didn’t appear to be much older then Nova and Rose, even though she could see his powerful looking muscles under his scales, and his midnight blue eyes being hard and cold. “O-oh, I’m s-sorry…” Ocelot said fearfully, his ears pinned to this sides of his head as he looked up at the other dragonet, his face showing a mix of terror and awe. He looked down at Ocelot, seemingly surprised that he was being spoken to, like he hadn’t even noticed Ocelot had hit him. “Oh, um, it’s fine.” he replied awkwardly, avoiding eye contact. There were a few moments of awkward silence before Nova broke it. “So, I’m Nova, this is Rose, and that’s Ocelot. And you are…?” The male looked startled once again, apparently spooked that Nova has continuing the encounter. Clutching his necklace, which appeared to be nothing more than a shard of glass on a string, he answered. “I’m...Shard.” He seemed to hesitate a moment before saying his name, but Nova really didn’t notice, and the others didn’t seem to either. Then, a hush fell over the group of dragonets, as a dragoness got onto the stage in front of them. She appeared to be a Day Dragon, with her pale golden scales and shimmering seafoam eyes. She wore a crown of exotic flowers, and a translucent green cape. She was beautiful. But Nova knew these types of dragons. They looked pretty and nice on the outside, but on the inside, they were no different then your average rich and greedy dragon in Nightglow City. She’s just some rich pri-. Nova stopped herself, and sighed internally. She knew she was wrong. Her mom would have never let her come here if the headmistress was like that. She was just judging her, even though she knew Jade was a nice dragon from her own research. Why did she do this? She should stop it. Like ‘dad’ said, it was dumb and stupid, and she should just stop being so du-. Nova’s train of thought was shattered by a nudge. It had been Rose, and she was looking at Nova, concern speckled throughout her face. “You OK?” she asked, the concern in her face also sprinkled into her voice. “Yeah, just having another internal monologue.” Nova replied jokingly, though her voice had a tiny drop of something else in it. Rose chuckled at this, then continued speaking. “Well, we should probably be quiet now, Headmistress Jade is about to speak.” Sure enough, just as Rose had finished, Jade began speaking from the podium on the stage. “Welcome, dragonets, to your first year at The Jade Foundation Academy! As many of you already know, I am the headmistress of this school. I’m just here to welcome you to...
...welcome you to school, but I wish I could stay longer to get to now all of you. Unfortunately, I have other business to attend to, so I’ll have to make this quick. After this, you’ll be assigned to your room with a roommate, and you will then tour the school with other groups of roomates. Each tour group will be lead by a teacher, and after the tours, you will be able to meet and get to know all of them. Finally, you will head to room with your roommate and the two of you can get settled before you classes officially begin tomorrow. And with that, I hope all of the you have a wonderful year here!” Once she finished, the group of hatchlings clapped as Jade exited the stage, and Nova noticed several students, including Ocelot, were clapping very excitedly. Once all the students had quieted down, each student was handed a key and a map of the school with their room marked. Nova headed off the find it, and was surprised that Rose was inside when she opened the door, She had just dropped her bags on the floor, and looked up when she saw Nova. “Well, isn’t this something? What are the odds that we’d be roomates?” “I don’t know, but it probably cost us both our luck for a month.” Rose snorted at this remark before continuing “Well, I suppose we should go find our tour group?” “Yeah, let’s go” The two dragonets left their room together, still chatting as they went to search for their tour group.
