HEAD IN THE CLOUDS A Steven Universe Fanfiction Chapter One ----- Green. Solid, rock-hard green. Tanzanite could only see this for so long, staring at the wall, she lost track of time. Her quarter was small, with a narrow door leading into the corridor, and her control panel near the back wall. Idocrase's ship was very large, but most of it was restricted for her use only. Tanzanite found this a little insulting, considering her high rank and rarity amongst Blue Diamond's court. But this was a secret mission requested by Yellow Diamond, who Idocrase and Jadeite belonged to. She had been sent along for her terraforming skills. Her telepathy would also be useful in the case of a confrontation with Rose Quartz's rebellion. There was a sudden rumbling that wracked the ship, throwing Tanzanite out of her chair and onto the ground. She struggled to regain her balance as a short gem with pale green skin and darker hair in lots of braids peered into the quarter. "Sorry, Tanzanite. Idocrase says we've hit some turbulence," Jadeite explained cheerfully. "We'll be on the surface in just a moment." Tanzanite nodded, bewildered. She had never seen Earth before, let alone experienced the sensation of its atmosphere. Was the air clear? What elements composed it? Was it mainly nitrogen, or even oxygen? Whatever it was, she knew what she had to do with it. ... Soon, the three gems had loaded onto the sandy surface of Earth. Tanzanite relished the sweet, fresh air. She had never felt anything as crisp as this, and it was amazing. She could feel it, gently caressing her face, brushing her gem, rustling her bun. It was a magical sensation. But other than that, Tanzanite wasn't very impressed. All she could see in one direction was rolling gray water, roaring and lapping at the sand. In another way, she saw a colony of humans, celebrating something. She had no idea what it was, but it looked like fun. One small human with puffy black hair was strumming his hand back and forth along some little instrument, producing a sweet, plucky sound that she could hear from far away. It might have been because of the bulky black thing that he stood in front of. Tanzanite shook her head. She couldn't afford any distractions. This was a high-stakes, top-secret mission, and she knew that if she didn't follow her orders directly and immediately, she and her comrades could end up shattered. She tore her gaze away from the dark-haired human and looked at Idocrase. "How do we start?" Idocrase looked around, her short curls bouncing with the wind. "There should be a Scapolite spy somewhere here. Hang on, I'll use my tracking device." She held a dark green slab of rock and, after tapping the surface, on which popped up a small yellow dot, pointed to her left. "This way." Tanzanite nodded and followed her. They trekked over hills of sand, passing by a large human dwelling with a carving of some creature that looked like a gem fusion in the mountain above it. Eventually, they approached another dwelling. This one was red, with a deep hole in front of it that was filled with water. A large gem with spherical hair stood in front of the hole, her arms crossed. As the troupe approached, she scowled. "You're finally here. Good. I found a passageway to your destination. Problem is, it's filled with water. It would take a longer time for you to reach it." Idocrase put her tracker away. "This shouldn't be a problem, Scapolite. I'll ask my Citrine to send a speed drill." Scapolite nodded. "I'll be on my way, then." She started walking off, and Idocrase examined the hole. "Yes, this would be hard to navigate without proper technology. I'll send for a drill immediately." She looked up. "In the meantime, search the area. See if there are any resources we can harvest. Collect samples." Tanzanite and Jadeite nodded. Tanzanite doubted they would find anything worthwhile, though. But she was very wrong. ----- CREDITS: Art: @PeriwinklePenguin11 Story/Concept: @PeriwinklePenguin11 Music: UNDERTALE OST: It's Raining Somewhere Else (by Toby Fox) Based off of the show Steven Universe ----- I have wanted to do this for SO LONG!!! :D
