I think the instructions are pretty clear. A hex color is a string of 6 numbers/letters. It supports numbers 0-9, as well as the letters a-f. The default color when you press the green flag is 33c1f2. BTW the default color is also Riolu's skin color Unless you put 000000, if the screen ends up black, that means the color was invalid or corrupt.
