Sadly, both her parents had passed away after a tragic car accident. She was fortunate to still have her grandfather, especially since her grandmother had passed away too. Even though the little girl was happy, she always felt that her home now was always a little too empty. Anyways, her grandfather was a passionate artist, and the little girl had always admired his skill. She loved to draw little creatures, whatever they may be; From dogs with wings to great dragons that breathed frosty gales rather than fire. Every now and then, her grandfather would paint one of the creatures she had created that she especially liked, and give it to her as a little gift. But, one day, something strange happened. Her grandfather was painting the little girl a picture of one of her creations; She said his name was splodge. He had nearly completed the picture when... It couldn't be.. Had the painting just moved? No, it couldn't. Painting don't move. Slowly he turned back to his paints. He was just imagining things. CRASH! He spun round just in time to see his easel falling to the ground. Carefully, he picked it back up. Then, he picked up his canvas, still lying on the ground, face down. It was blank. Nothing was on the canvas. Now he knew he was going crazy. He thought he would go and take a nap. Then suddenly, "Grandpa! Come quick, come quick!". He rushed to his granddaughter, nearly slipping on the large paint paw-prints on the floor. Paw-prints? They didn't have a pet... But when he reached her, he couldn't believe his eyes. There, there was the creature he has just been painting. A sleek cat, except this cat had two stripes of paint for a tail, still dripping paint onto the floor, and its front paws were covered in what seemed to be wet paint. But there it was. It stood before him. He stood before it. He was in awe, too shocked to speak. It took him a while to realise that the little girl was asking him something. "Can we keep him? Oh, please please please?". It had been two years since the incident. Splodge lives happily with his new family. But he had done more that just become the family pet. Without even realising, he had helped keep a broken family together. He had helped to fill the deep hole the little girl's mother and father had left. Of course, that hole could never be filled entirely. But then, it was nice to have someone there for you, parent or not parent.
