Diamond is shy, smart, and very conscious of her appearance. She can move objects and freeze water with her mind. With these two abilities combined, she can make very ornate ice sculptures. She likes mirrors, bluebells, and ice cream. (Who doesn't?) She dislikes bubbly soap, spicy foods, and canines of any kind. She HATES when anyone mistakes her for a fox. DO NOT CALL HER A FOX! If you're wondering about the wing anatomy, it's an insect type wing. Diamond's story, or The Prince's Gift: A whisper of wind rolled down the mountainside, brushing the boughs of the evergreens and rattling the row of wooden beads hanging in an intricately carved wooden doorway. This doorway was set squarely in the wall of the most un-square-like house imaginable. The house consisted mostly of a sphere of bark dangling by a thick rope from a jagged cliffside. An arrangement of flexible tree branches spiraled around this rope, forming a kind of ladder. Protruding from the sphere were several long poles, each with a different object hanging from the end, the most notable of which being the skeleton of a large eagle. On the front of this odd house, wolves, bears, and owls chased each other around the rim of the previously mentioned door. From the opening, a curved walkway zigged and zagged from boulder to treetop, finally reaching its destination at the bank of a small frozen pond. Inside the house, a weave of white strings criscrossed in such a thick cloud that an observer would almost miss the woman sitting among them. Her hair was as white as the snow outside, and her face was ragged and wrinkled. She turned her head to the rattling beads in the doorway, then sat down in her old chair and waited. A moment later, a traveler ducked through the doorway, clutching his cloak tightly around him. "I brought my payment for your service," he declared, pulling a bundle from the folds of his cloak. "Bring it here," the woman creaked. The man held out his gift, carefully navigating the maze of strings, and pulled back the cloth. Lying in his arms was a small white kitten. On its back rested a pair of long gossamer wings. The woman nodded, then took the tiny creature into her arms. "Your debt has been settled, our paths have crossed, and they will never cross again," she murmured. The stranger backed out of the strange house, leaving all the beads rattling on their strings. "I will call you Diamond, little one," the woman whispered, stroking the silky fur. "For you are precious as gold to me." One year later, Diamond sat on the clifftop, contemplating the rising moon. Her flanks were sleek and shiny, and her fur had begun to take on a bluish tint. Her wings extended were longer than her body, and they sparkled silver in the pale twilight. At the moment, they were folded loosely against her back, twitching slightly at any small breeze that happened to travel in their direction. Diamond sighed. The endless rows of pines and firs greeted her again, not having changed in the slightest. She turned her head away, then peeked back in the hope that one tree might have crept out of place. Unfortunately, the forest still stood silent. Diamond snorted. "You're not going to change? Not at all? Never? Show me something extraordinary for once!" When the trees yielded no miracles, Diamond gave up and lightly leaped down the staircase of branches to the roof of the house. From there, she slithered down the round sides to one of the long poles protruding from them. Here she perched, still watching the forest. Suddenly, her ears stood straight up in the air. On the very edge of her vision, a cloud of snow stirred into life. It rumbled forward as if millions of lemmings were thundering through the pines. The cloud grew larger and larger, until only a single row of trees were between it and the house. The snow settled, leaving the woods as quiet as they had been previously. Still, Diamond waited for the cause of this strange phenomenon to show itself. She peered hard at the spot where the cloud had disappeared. For a moment, a pair of amber eyes and the tip of a gray flicking tail met her eyes, brushing quickly past the snow-laden boughs of the thick firs. Diamond strained to see more, but the forest yielded nothing. Sighing, she turned and stalked back into the house. "Grandmother," she asked, curling up on a string hammock, "does anyone else live in this forest?" "Sometimes. Visitors come and go, but everything mostly stays the same," the old woman answered. Diamond opened her mouth to tell her adopted mother what she had seen, but stopped herself without knowing why. She peered out the window and glanced this way and that for any sign of the mysterious cloud she had seen earlier. Flecks of snow began to drift down from the sky, obscuring the forest. A flurry of flakes blasted Diamond's muzzle, causing her to jump back, wings flared from the shock, and paw at her nose. Eyes watering, she glanced out the window again and gasped.
