This project displays the phases of the moon for 2022, starting with the full moon on January 1, 2022. Use up arrow to pause or unpause the animation. Use down arrow to see today's moon phase. Use the right and left arrow keys to change the date. Use A and Z to zoom in or out. Press space to change the moon image.
I was inspired by this NASA video, which shows an entire year of lunar cycles in beautiful detail: https://youtu.be/3f_21N3wcX8 My project attempts to show lunar libration but greatly simplifies what is actually a complex phenomenon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libration Thanks to @gtoal for the script that correctly calculates a user's timezone and hence what day of the year it is. (My original attempt at this was often off by a day.)
