Leapheart slowly padded away from the clearing. She was heartbroken. The only one she had ever loved had fallen for someone else. Climbing the High Rock, relishing the distracting pain of gravel cutting into her paws, Leapheart stood at the top, overlooking the thrashing river below. So much pain. So much sadness. Her mother, dead. Her father who didn’t care for her at all. And now Blazepelt. The High Rock was famous for its dangerous sheer drop. Kits were often told dreadful stories of what would happen if they went to the top. There was one more person who Leapheart had lost the same way. Her little brother, Maplepaw. Killed in a brutal battle with RiverClan. Closing her eyes, she knew she would go to join him in StarClan now. There were some clumsy pawsteps behind her as anxious paws scuttled up the rock. Turning around, she law Jumpfire standing there. “Leapheart, what are you doing?” She glared back at him with narrowed green eyes. “This is none of your business, fox-breath.” He winced a little under the harsh remark. Then his eyes widened. “You’re going to jump?” She nodded with dreadful certainty. “But you can’t!” “Why not? Every person I’ve ever loved is gone! And now Blazepelt loves someone else!” She hissed. “Because… Because I love you,” he blurted out, ears flattening in embarrassment. Leapheart was shocked. She and Jumpfire had been friends for a long time, but she’d never thought… But Jumpfire took her silence as more hostility. “You never care for anyone but yourself, Leapheart. I wanted to be with you. I thought you loved me back. But you’re just as ice-hearted to me as to anyone else. I hope it HURTS when you hit the river.” He turned on his tail and ran. “Jumpfire, wait!” she called, raising a paw. But he was too far away to hear.
