Description

hello hello! so awhile back humble ol' mima here got ~featured~ and boy was that one of the highlights of my life. i was famous for like a day or two. however, i looked back recently at the project (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/91708207/) that got featured, and let me say that it was very cringe worthy. it was a "realism" tutorial on proportions and, let me tell you, as the one who drew that art, it was not at all realistic. at all. *shudders* if you draw consistently and challenge yourself while doing so, you will consistently improve, and as it's been a good couple years since i made that tutorial, i have come a long way in my art journey. thus, seeing art that i drew at a lower skill level causes me to cringe. however, if you're at the level that i was, that doesn't mean that you'll be there forever! enjoy making art and know that the only way to go is up. (oh and press space or arrow keys to advance) also diiissclaaaimmer the girl that i drew //did not// end up perfectly proportionate! her nose is a bit too small and low down, among other things i'm sure i'll notice as i grow older and move further in my art journey. however, it's important not to draw someone with perfect proportions every time! otherwise you'll end up with same face syndrome: everyone you draw will look exactly the same. proportions are just the general summation of what makes up the human face. however, each person has an individual face with different proportions, so it's important to reflect that in your art! experiment! draw the wrong proportions on purpose and see if you like the result! for example, the anime/manga style has very large eyes, but small noses and mouths, with narrow chins and sharp jawlines. adjusting proportions and experimenting may help you find your own personal style ^w^ the defining features of cartoons are simplification and proportion manipulation. know the rules so that you can break them = ^ ~ w • ^ = i used krita for this! i highly recommend if you're getting into digital art to find a program other than the scratch editor ^u^ while the scratch editor is a great starting point, other (free!) programs dedicated fully to art have a lot more capabilities! i suggest if you're just starting out to get firealpaca (http://firealpaca.com/). krita (https://krita.org/en/) is also a great free program! i advise against gimp, though. while i did use it when i was younger, it's better for photo manipulation than for creating original art imo. let me know if there's anything that you can't read! lol my handwriting can get pretty messy at times ^^; hope this helps! have a lovely day, my friends~
