so i'm finally in an art class again! it's been awhile >w< and because i happen to do online school, the only art classes i get are digital ^^; so it's back to working with gimp for digital imaging 2! i took digital imaging 1 back in 8th grade so if you go back a ways in my scratch projects you can probably find a drawing of a bird that i did for an assignment very similar to this one. i've improved a lot since the bird though >u< and i've also come to realize just how bad gimp really is as an art program. it's great for editing photos, but man, krita has spoiled me! not only did i have to work with a small canvas size as one of the project requirements (it had to be 400 x 400, whereas i'm used to working with around 1200 x 1600 in krita and firealpaca), gimp's standard brushes all tend to either have a very air-brushy, overly-feathered feel or they're hard as rock and very pixelated. thus, you either get the kind of shading that every artist has used in that cringey stage at the beginning/early middle of their art journey, or you do something pixel-y and you're good at cell shading, which i am not. i am a very combination-of-soft-and-hard-shading kind of person. suffice to say, i struggled with this ^^; but i am fairly pleased with the outcome. lol the teacher of the class has a mathematics degree and teaches some of the science classes as well so she mentioned in the feedback that she wasn't particularly artistic... hooo boy is this class gonna be fun >w< lol but i am looking forward to it. even if i won't use gimp for art outside of the class, what i learn in the class can transfer over to other programs. woo time to break up that huge paragraph but yeah enjoy this less-than-usual-quality drawing there will likely be more coming ^w^ (i got an a on the assignment woooooo)
