I mean, come on -- "A Little Princess"? If it has that for a title, it must be one of those cheesy fairy tale stories, I thought. Little did I know, when I finally picked it up years later, that it would become one of my favorite classics! A Little Princess is a beautiful novel about keeping your head high through adversity and not letting the darkness around you diminish your light, even when everyone else is cold and vicious. In this case, the main character, Sara, suffers the death of her wealthy father and is forced to become a penniless servant of the boarding school she had been enrolled in. It's one of those books where the prose is very thoughtful and elegant and meaningful. For elementary schoolers and up
