Instructions

So I was bored and decided to replace Sonic with Robotnik in @tomicool's Genesis engine. He's got his Mania sprites because they look nice and smooth. I guess I might do other things later with this, like get rid of Sonic's signature Spindash and have him jump normally (but still allow him to tumble and roll), allow him to control Badniks ranging from Motobugs and Buzzbombers to Eggrobos and even Metal Sonic, ride the Eggmobile/Egg-O-Matic/WhateverIt'sCalledTheseDays, and maybe even spar with Sonic. But right now, he's nothing more than a character edit. Speedy's Update Log: Version 1.0 (9th December, 2017)- Replaced Sonic with Robotnik. Robotnik has landing animations, another falling animation if you're falling long enough, and no dash animation. @tomicool's Update Log: Version 1.3 (10th September, 2015) - Sonic can enter rolling a tad earlier and ends rolling a tad later Version 1.2 (6th September, 2015) - Spindash added - Improved ground collision to detect very thin platforms - Improved launching jump collision - Fixed low speed horizontal rotation animation bug - Fixed static animation bug Version 1.1 (5th September, 2015) - Slightly extended level map to test more extreme inclines - Fixed jumping animation bug - Faded, resetting start screen Version 1.0 (31st August, 2015) - Project released

Description

Song is Dr. Robotnik's theme from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, remixed by Sound of a Shadow on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0-cdqJ0PaM Thanks to @MunchJrGames for ripping Robotnik from Mania. I guess I might make a game outta this later, maybe with Robotnik escaping the Death Egg or something, I dunno. Original Notes by @tomicool: "I made this little project in the Spring of 2014 for my GCSE IT assignment. It progressed really well, but ultimately I decided to go with something more simple for my assignment and this was left lingering on my account unshared. I came back to Scratch a couple of days ago to check my account/notifications (since I haven't been here for like a year now) and found this and to be honest I was surprised at how well it held up. So I did a bit of tinkering and polishing over the last couple of days (it didn't take too long - it was mainly sorting out small glitches and collision problems since the engine was 100% working) and figured I may as well release this free for everyone to use for their projects since I'm lazy and probably won't be using Scratch for much (or anything at all) in either the near or long haul. So what's this about? Well, it's a game engine that, as I said, I did initially for my GCSE IT assignment and began life as just a general platforming engine test. At one stage in life it was a fairly bog standard platformer, the first iteration having a crudely drawn stickman as the playable character and then a cheap and horrifically animated 8 bit Mario sprite no less. Eventually I decided to make something a bit more exciting and although this was built of that original code it plays almost nothing like that now. Of course, this got way too complicated and so I stopped working on it (although it was functional). As you can see I've tried to replicate the old Sonic games as closely as possible. Sonic follows the terrain from all angles and momentum was a very key part of making this. Going down and up slopes affects your velocity greatly and rolling really accentuates this, just like the old Sonic games. In the end I'm really happy and, after a year, surprised at how well this works. There will no doubt be a few issues present and I encourage you guys to remind me of any in the comment section as I'm willing to do a bit of extra tinkering here and there if needed. There are a couple of minor issues that I might make some small, tedious work on now and then over the next few weeks already. I've got a lot on my plate though and Scratch isn't really part of my life at all like it was a few years back. Not sure if that's a sad thing or not. I hope you enjoy!"
