I'm bored.." Rockkit mewled in the nursery, rolling around in her nest until she was covered in moss. "Now, now, Rockkit. You'll get let out of the nursery when your an apprentice; you know that. It won't be long now, I'm sure." Shinefur, one of the queens, was always in the nursery, where she prefered to stay rather than the warriors den. Always watching over the kits, hers or not, she was always there for them, even if it was for the slightest thing wrong. "I know, I know.. But it's still going to be two whole moons until I get out! ..I just want to be able to help my clan.."Rockkit complained as she rolled over on her back and began batting at her tail. Thinking a for a moment, Shinefur replied, " Well, I know of a way you can help the clan," Her green eyes sparkling like her golden fur. "You do?!" Rockkit immediately sat up, dark green eyes twinkling, ears perked. (Hmhmhm.. Works everytime..) Shinefur thought as she remembered many kits sharing Rockkit's dilema. "Oh yes!" Shinefur was making her voice sound dramatic on purpose, managing to get all the kits in the nursery's attention. "You see Treekit over there?" She pointed her nose over to a skinny brown tom-kit, curled up in a corner of the nursery, not looking well. "Well, Treekit has a bad tummyache, and he doesn't feel good at all.. It would be a shame if he couldn't play Moss-ball with you today, would it?" Rockkit and the two other kits were shaking their heads, suddenly feeling sorry for Treekit, who was all the while listening carefully at the mention of not being able to play Moss-ball, his favorite game. "To help him feel better, I'll need a volunteer to go outside the nursery and ask the medicine cat for herbs to give to Treekit." Sudden mews of "Me! Me! Me! Pick me!" filled the nursery, only silenced when Shinefur began again. "Ok, Rockkit, do you think you could go and finish your first task?" Rockkit puffed out her chest and said, "You can count on me! ^w^" and she stepped proudly over to Treekit, still huddled in his nest close to the entrance. "Don't worry Treekit! I'll make sure you feel better soon!" At this, Treekit looked up slightly, his pine-green eyes lighting up. Rockkit proudly stepped out of the nursery, surprised at all the scents that hit her nose. Dozens of warriors lined up in the clearing, ready to go on hunting patrols, apprentices with their mentors discussing what fighting techinques to learn next, elders telling stories to eachother of their youth. It was almost too much for Rockkit at one time, for she'd never been outside of the nursery. She was glad that the lichen covering the entrance was hiding her from her denmates, so they wouldn't see her trembling. She glanced to her right and noticed two she-cats holding strange-smelling plants in their mouths; Rockkit guessed that these were supposed to be herbs. Warily padding over to them, the white she-cat disappeared into a small grassy clearing right beside the nursery, while the orange she-cat sat down. Taking notice of the shivering bundle of fur tottering over, she purred, "Oh hello, little one. Do you need something?" Rockkit had to look straight up to see the medicine cat's face, and she managed not to fall over backwards while reporting Treekit's illness. "Oh, a stomach ache, hm? Well, here's just the thing you need.." She sifted through the leaves on the ground in front of her, picking up a light brown root. "Here's some chervile root; take it to Treekit and tell him to chew it thoroughly. That should do the trick!" "Thank you."Rockkit picked up the root in her mouth and carried it back to the nursery. Behind her, the white she-cat came out of the clearing and said, "Who was that?" The medicine cat replied, "Oh, just Rockkit in need of some herbs for her friend. It was her first time out of the nursery; she was pretty brave compared to most kits I've seen." "Well that's nice to hear. I hope her friend gets better soon. By the way, have you noticed when Rockkit's supposed to get apprenticed, Cloudleaf? It shouldn't be very much longer I assume." "Yes, only two moons, I think? Hmm.. Anyway, how did the herbs look? Were there many that needed to be thrown out?" "The herbs looked fine. No, only some borage leaves and camile were getting stale. I'll go and gather some more at sunhigh." Cloudleaf purred, "You'll grow into a fine medicine cat, Snowpaw." Back in the nursery, Rockkit was thinking (So the medicine cat's name is Cloudleaf and the medicine cat apprentice is Snowpaw? I'm already getting to know my clan better!) Dropping the herb in front of Treekit and instructing him how to eat it, Rockkit was rewarded with a game of Feather-toss, a mouse for lunch, and a new friend. ~2 moons later~ "Ok! Are you ready for your first lesson in hunting?" Greystorm, Rockpaw's mentor, was already scenting the air for any sign of prey in the training hollow. (Yes! My first assignment as an apprentice!!) "First, you must know the main rule of hunting: patience is key. You can't just pounce on the first piece of prey you see; you have to sneak up on it to catch it easily. But before you pounce, you need to locate your prey's scent." Rockpaw began sniffing the air around them, discovering a mouse at the edge of the hollow. Whispering, Greystorm mumbled, "Good job! Mice are our main prey source, and they are the easiest prey to catch for most cats. There's one thing that makes them difficult though; unlike most prey, who will smell you before they see you, mice will feel the vibrations in the ground before they can even smell you. Now, watch me as I sneak up to the mouse. Notice how I position myself." Greystorm dropped into a hunting crouch, his stomach and his tail almost parallel with the ground. Putting one paw after another in a straight line, he made his way to the mouse. Gathering all his strength in his hindquarters, he leaped, and knocked the mouse to the side with his paw. Dazed, the mouse tried to run, but Greystorm was already on top of it, flinging it into the air and delivering a swift bite to the neck for the killing blow. "Wow! How long did it take you to learn that?!" Rockpaw was amazed, staring in awe at how neatly the move was executed. Burying the limp mouse beside Rockpaw, Greystorm began again, "It's really easy once you get the hang of it. Did you pay attention to how I was crawling to it? I want you to give it a try." Rockpaw crouched down quickly, preforming an almost perfect hunting crouch. "Great job, Rockpaw! You nailed it! Just lower your head a little more and keep your tail still so it won't make noise. Now, I want you to try to scent and catch prey on your own. Think you can do it?" "I'll try my best!" Rockpaw began stalking around the clearing, finding a small squirrel beside an oak tree. Dropping into the hunter's crouch, remembering to lift her head and keep her tail still, she creeped forward. Stepping on a twig, the snap startled the squirrel, making it dash up the tree. "Mouse-dung! I scared it away!" "Try to step lightly and avoid all twigs and dry leaves. You'll easily be able to hunt on dry leaves once you practice more, though. ..I think I heard a thrush over on the opposite side of the training hollow; you can try and get it. :3" Turning around, Rockpaw swiveled her ears until she heard the bird digging for worms. In the hunting crouch, she stalked over to the thrush, its back turned to her. Wiggling her haunches, she pounced, missing it by a whisker. Covered in white feathers, she began to search for more prey. Another mouse was behind the same oak tree that the squirrel had been. Stalking more quietly than before, she got as close to it as she could, then she swiped it into the air, like Greystorm. Flailing, the mouse fell to the ground, dazed. It ran blindly in the direction it was facing, and Rockpaw managed to fling it up again. This time, it landed farther than Rockpaw had anticipated, and it squeezed itself into a burrow. "Really close! You almost had it! Not bad for your first couple of tries!" Rockpaw sullenly turned towards her mentor, thinking that she'd never get it right. "You really think I wasn't that bad? I missed three times in a row!!" "These were only your first tries at hunting; you're bound not to get it right the first time. Honestly, I've never seen such a perfect hunting crouch preformed on any apprentice's first try in moons! It was only bad luck that you missed those three; I think that you'll grow to be one of the best hunters in the clan with practice!" Rockpaw was surprised at this praise, and looked up to see Greystorm swelling with pride at his apprentice. "Well, since you're getting frustrated with hunting, why don't I teach you a few battle moves instead? Let me get back to camp really quick and get Whitethorn." Greystorm dashed out of the training hollow and jumped through the bushes. Suddenly inspired, Rockpaw began to search for prey again. Nosing her way over to where Greystorm had disappeared, she found a large brown squirrel. In the hunter's crouch once more, she slowly put her paws in front of the other. Focusing only on the squirrel, the blood roaring in her ears, she positioned herself only a tail-length away from it. Putting all her weight into her haunches, she threw herself forward, landing squarely on its back and nipping its neck. "Ok, Rockpaw, here's Whitethorn. I want you to- hey! Did you catch that!?" Greystorm padded out from the bushes with Whitethorn and sat down behind his apprentice. Whitethorn exclaimed, "Wow! That squirrel's almost as big as you!!" Rockpaw set down the squirrel and buried it. "Thanks! I just caught it before you got back! I finally did it!" "See? I told you you'd get it! We'll take that back to camp when we're done with battle practice. It should get your reputation with the clan to go up plenty!" Eyes shining, Rockpaw followed Greystorm's next instructions on how to fight Whitethorn. Doing her best, she managed to beat him, sustaining only a few scratches. "You did very well! Rest a minute and get your strength back. It's time to get back to camp. And from what I've seen today, you'll be a great warrior of ThunderClan one day," Greystorm purred. ~6 moons later~ "From this day forward, you shall be known as Rockshadow. StarClan honors your eagerness to help your clan and your loyalty, and we welcome you as a full member of ThunderClan." Skystar's voice rang through the camp, and cheers of "Rockshadow! Rockshadow! Rockshadow!" followed soon after. Sitting down at the camp entrance for her vigil, Rockshadow took a deep breath of the greenleaf air, her heart soaring. She was finally a warrior. ~One vigil later~ Rockshadow was headed towards the warriors den to meet her new denmates. There was Preyheart, the deputy, Darkfur, a young cream-colored tom, Breezewhisker, a white she-cat with orange patches, Whitejaw, a blue-gray tom with a white chin, and Wildpounce, a dark gray she-cat with a white underbelly. Rockshadow spent more time with the toms rather than the she-cats, and they quickly began to notice her more. For the beginning of her time as a warrior, most of her denmates' replies were, "Hey. ..Do I know you?", "...Hi.", "Hi! What's up?", and "Oh. Hello.". Rockshadow noticed that Whitejaw was a bit more friendly, and acted like she was his friend already, even though he didn't even know her name. Darkfur was a shy young tom, only a few moons younger than Whitejaw. He never liked to be around many cats at one time, and spoke quietly to everyone, especially Rockshadow. So, everyday, when Rockshadow went out hunting, she would get better and better, and not long after one week, she was able to bring both Whitejaw and Darkfur a piece of prey back, while still keeping up a good reputation. She learned to keep at least two pieces of prey buried for later so she could easily get extra reputation if she needed to, mostly for when she was wounded after a battle. Darkfur noticed her mostly now, his greetings from "Hey. ..Do I know you?" to "Hi, Rockshadow." to "Hey, Rockshadow! What's up?". He seemed to open up around her now that they knew eachother better. Whitejaw, however, took longer to acknowledge her, although he was friendlier with his greetings: "Hi! What's up?" at the very beginning, then finally, after about three weeks, he would say, "Hi, Rockshadow! How's your day been?". Whitejaw was more of a.. she-cat's tom, and was almost always goofing off trying to impress them. Of course, the impressing didn't work, but it always made for a good laugh. Since Rockshadow was kind of closed up too, not as much as Darkfur, but still shy, Whitejaw's clowning around was helping her open up quite a bit as well. Over about a moon, the three cats became very close friends. Whitejaw had earned the title of the second-best fighter in ThunderClan [next to Preyheart, of course X3], Darkfur had been named one of the best hunters in ThunderClan, second only to Rockshadow, who had become ThunderClan's best. A few moons later, the toms grew quite fond of Rockshadow, even Whitejaw, who seemed content flirting with any she-cat. Rockshadow knew she wanted a mate sometime in her life, but she never thought that 'sometime' would come so soon. One day after bringing back prey to her two friends, she was called over by Darkfur to sit by him at his favorite spot under the tree. Darkfur seemed especially nervous, and Rockshadow had no idea of what he would say next; "Hey, Rockshadow..?" "Yeah? What is it, Darkfur?" "..I um.. I.. I really like you, Rockshadow.. And I was wondering.. if.. you would like to..... be my mate?" Rockshadow was taken aback, realizing suddenly how much time they spent together, and how close they had grown. She also noticed how difficult it must've been for they shyest cat in the clan to say this; she knew she couldn't just throw away his courage.. Standing up, she mewed quietly, "I.. I'll think about it.. |3" and she walked away. Thinking, (Well, I won't decide until Whitejaw notices me a little more.. that way I can see for sure if-) "Hey, Rockshadow! I need to tell you something!" Whitejaw yowled from across the clearing. "..Umm, ok! Just a second!" Rockshadow picked up a piece of prey and gave it to Whitejaw as she sat down next to him. "What's up?"she mewed. Whitejaw paused a moment, hiding his eyes. "I've wanted to tell you this for some time now.. *sigh* ....I like you, Rockshadow.. In 'that way', I mean.. ..Now, I know this is kinda sudden, but I needed to tell you.." (OH MY GOSH! I WAS JUST THINKING HE WAS GONNA SAY THAT!! X'D) ***sorry for the sudden stop right here, but i've gotten lazy and i dont feel like typing everything in-depth right now.. so im just going to disappoint you and skip thru all the detailed parts X'3 sorry bout that ^^;*** Soo, that night, Rockshadow stayed out of camp hunting, even when the moon rose high in the sky. She sat down and was worn out from thinking about how dissapointed the other cat would be if she didnt chose him. it was such a hard desicion. Even tho she continued to share prey with them, she still couldnt decide who was to be her mate. She thought for an entire 3-day period, staying out of camp all night exept on the last day of her thoughts. She seemed to be pulled into the warriors den, her fur ungroomed for 3 days made her embarrassed to have returned the nights before, but something just.. drew her there. She then remembered a dream she had had when she first became a warrior; a dream of a cream-colored tom. She had no idea who this tom was when she drempt it the first time, but now she realized it was Darkfur.. The next morning, she told both the toms that she would bring back prey to them after a hunting patrol. They both had to close their eyes and wait to see what kind of prey they had received. Whoever got the squirrel got to be Rockshadow's mate. (you can kind of guess who XD She decided Darkfur not only bcuz of the dream, but bcuz she knew he wouldn't be able to handle losing his only 2 bffs and his only and 1st love; Whitejaw, however, was definetly capable of easily getting another mate ;3) So, Rockshadow told Darkfur and he was overjoyed that she had chosen him, the shy and 2nd best hunter in the clan with only 2 friends his entire life, instead of Whitejaw, the best fighter and strongest warrior who had a great sense of humor and many friends, for a mate. Rockshadow could tell Whitejaw was hurt, but she continued to share prey with both toms and treat them both as her best friends (of course, Darky got more attention >w///< hurrhurr) it was a tom and looked just like Darkfur CB. She decided to name him Shalekit, and he soon grew to like his name X3. Not very long after, (only about 4 moons) Rockshadow got her first apprentice. Her apprentice was a silvery tabby tom with bright blue eyes named Featherpaw :3. He was an easy learner, and loved to learn, as a matter of fact! X3 On his first training assessment, (hunting) he missed the first time, but he got the prey almost every time after that! Rockshadow was very impressed; she was sure he would grow to be the best hunter in the clan after her! Rockshadow noticed he always got thrushes; he was already the best thrush hunter in ThunderClan after only a week of being an apprentice! Featherpaw improved his hunting skill so much, that Rockshadow would take him out on every, and any, hunting patrol the clan had X3. ThunderClan was always well-fed with Rockshadow and Featherpaw around; they had great reputation with the clan because of this :33. Even though Featherpaw and Rockshadow both prefered hunting, they still had to battle train. Featherpaw's first battle task was to drive ShadowClan away from the Thunderpath because they were crossing into ThunderClan territory and stealing prey. Every cat knows of ShadowClan's strength, but Preyheart's orders were orders. Featherpaw had to fight. Once Rockshadow and Featherpaw had reached the Thunderpath, she gave him a quick lesson on how to cross it safely. Once there was a long enough gap in the monsters, they raced across the path and into ShadowClan territory. At the burnt tree, the border patrol was arching their backs at the three ShadowClan cats, each of them carrying ThunderClan prey. The battle began, and Featherpaw was doing surprisingly well for his first battle. Rockshadow became badly wounded and had to lean against Featherpaw's shoulder for support on their way back to the camp. Crossing the Thunderpath again was more difficult this time, Rockshadow having to run across it despite her bleeding leg. ~Three moons later~ ThunderClan territory was once more being threatened by the enemy clans, but this time it was RiverClan fighting for Sunningrocks. Rockshadow had taught Featherpaw every battle move she knew, and he had learned them with ease. The mentor and apprentice had grown very attached to one another, and Rockshadow loved Featherpaw like a son; in fact, Featherpaw and Shalekit had become best friends as well, almost inseperable. Even though Featherpaw had been trained pretty much every battle move there was, there was still the reason to be nervous. This was only his second battle, and RiverClan cats were very strong and well-muscled. It wouldn't be easy to make them trip up, so Featherpaw had to look out for every opening he got. At the battle, nine ThunderClan warriors lined up on one side of Sunningrocks; the RiverClan cats lined up on their side of the river, outnumbering ThunderClan by only one cat. Then, the battle that never seemed to be won- the battle of Sunningrocks -was to be fought once more. Screeches and yowls split the air as the cats hurled themselves at eachother. Blood spattered the rocks, and the fight that every generation has to face began. ****** Rockshadow had just thrown off two muscular tom cats, delivering the killing bite to the neck to finish them off. She knew that a warrior did not need to kill to win one's battles, but in this case, she had to kill to save her life. Bleeding heavily from a wound to her back and neck, she was forced to watch the fight continue while she lay at the edge of the clearing. Brightfang and Dustwhisker were battling four RiverClan cats, Mousefur was backing away from a rough-looking she-cat, Graytail and Ashtail were attacking a tom and his large apprentice, Webpaw was running away toward Graytail with another RiverClan cat on his heels. One ThunderClan cat, however, had been killed shortly after the battle began.. [Ok, there's most of the patrol.. but wait.. Where's Featherpaw?!] Rockshadow was able to sit up now, searching frantically for her apprentice. [Ah ha! There he is!] He was standing at the edge of Sunningrocks, his paws in the water, fighting two she-cats at one time. Featherpaw is pretty tough when it comes to battles, but these RiverClan cat's heavy paws were doing a toll on his strength. [I've got to help him.. He can't handle those cats on his own..] Rockshadow struggled to stand up, managing to half-limp, half-run over to her apprentice. Featherpaw's eyes flashed with relief as he saw his mentor, but the relief was short-lived. She was still bleeding heavily, and was barely able to stand on her paws. Featherpaw was getting weaker by the minute, and these she-cats hardly seemed fazed by his attacks. Rockshadow lunged at a silvery-blue she-cat named Waterlily and threw her aside, batting at her paws until she fell over. Sinking her teeth into Waterlily's neck, Rockshadow waited until the she-cat stopped breathing. The dark-brown tabby now turned towards Featherpaw, who was still struggling with Beetlerose. Rockshadow was now covered in blood, making her paws slip on the damp grass. Unable to get to her apprentice in time, Beetlerose pinned him to the ground and sliced open his belly with her hind claws. [.......No...!] Rockshadow's eyes grew wide at the sight of her beloved apprentice laying motionless at the she-cat's paws. Feeling a sudden burst of energy, Rockshadow's eyes blazed like fire, and she tore through the clearing, feeling no pain, only anger and the desire for revenge. "YOU KILLED FEATHERPAW!!" Rockshadow roared at the top of her lungs, knocking Beetlerose into the water head-first. Dazed, the she-cat couldn't get up before Rockshadow sunk her claws into the dark gray she-cat's face. Digging into Beetlerose's eyes, the she-cat wailing in agony, Rockshadow took her free paw and slowly cut a deep gash in the RiverClan warrior's stomach, watching as the torturous and slow death began. Blood now lapped at Rockshadow's paws, which were no longer snow-white but dark red. Beetlerose's last breath would not be heard by her clanmates, as the rest of the RiverClan patrol had already retreated back to their camp or had been killed. Coming out of her blood-trance, the young tabby padded slowly over to her apprentice. "......Featherpaw..?" The silvery tom just layed there, with no response. His eyes reflected the early night sky, which was filled with warriors of StarClan. ".....Featherpaw.." She breathed the words like the softness of the wind that he so loved when it rustled the trees in greenleaf. "Featherpaw!! No!!!" Rockshadow yowled in pain greater than the bleeding wounds she recieved in battle. With a heavy heart, her clanmates took Featherpaw by his scruff and dragged him carefully across the clearing back to camp. Her eyes, though dull, seemed to catch a flicker of starlight flash by the dead apprentice. {He will be in good paws now..} a voice in her head seemed to say. Even though Rockshadow believed the starry she-cat, this would still be one of the longest nights she had ever lived through. [..How will i tell Shalekit?] was her last thought before sinking into a disturbed sleep. ****** END OF PART 1 GAME DOWNLOAD: (version 13; i have v.11) http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/163818/download
