Description

Robert Shaw (University of California, Santa Cruz) was a pioneer in the development of chaos theory. He published his paper 'Strange Attractors, Chaotic Behavior, and Information Flow', in 1981. Link: https://www.degruyter.com/view/j/zna.1981.36.issue-1/zna-1981-0115/zna-1981-0115.xml On page 82 of his paper, Figures 1 and 2 show two oscillators; a damped harmonic oscillator and the Van der Pol oscillator. This project codes the equations Shaw gives in his paper for the damped harmonic oscillator (Figure 1 in his paper). All of the x, y settings iterate to the spiral fixed-point attractor.
