Click to spawn yellow cubes that will fall in! ____________________EXPLANATION________________________ As an object approaches the event horizon, time itself begins to slow down. This is because mass(which is what a black hole is) creates gravity. A large enough amount of mass and it is possible to feel gravity. Gravity creates a curve in the fabric of space time that bends space and time. This is why it pulls things inward, but notice I didn't only say space, I said time. Time is also affected by gravity, although not as much. Someone standing on the surface of earth experiences time faster than someone in the space station, even if it is a minuscule difference. But with the infinite gravity of a black hole, time is strongly affected. The closer you get, the stronger the gravity. This is why objects seem to slow down when they get closer rather than speeding up. This effect is known as time dilation. The objects get darker and redder because time dilation also affects light. The wavelength of the light gets longer because light further away from the black hole moves faster than closer light. A longer wavelength of light = redder light. It gets darker because more and more light is being bent into the black hole and away from the viewer.
The process of spaghettification(when the atoms of objects themselves get pulled apart because of tidal forces), is too complex to realistically program into a sprite.
