I'm back with more from my upcoming book, Amazing Animals for the Absurdly Absent-Minded! "The pyrophoenix is the most iconic type of phoenix. As most people know, pyrophoenices are birds of fire. As they fly, a large trail of fire can trail behind them. Pyrophoenices can have varying amounts of heat. This determines their social rank among other pyrophoenices in their flock. The leader will always be purple, with the next rank being blue, then red, then orange, then yellow. Other than the leader, orange phoenices are the least common. Baby pyrophoenices are usually yellow. Some, however will be a reddish. The reddish ones will grow up to be blue. Pyrophoenices have no specific mating season, the leader has a special way of reproduction that no other phoenix can do. It is neither male nor female, but when it dies, after its body explodes similar to an atom bomb, a baby phoenix will emerge from the dead body. Through its childhood, it will be a blazing blue color. When it is finally mature enough to become an adult, another explosion will occur, about half of the size of the rebirth explosion, and the phoenix will emerge at a height of approximately 3.5 meters with a wingspan of 7. During its childhood, a leader phoenix has little to no growth. Other pyrophoenices will lay eggs that, when hatching, will burst into flame. The average baby pyrophoenice is about 1 meter in height while the average adult is about 2 meters. A baby pyrophoenix has a wingspan of about 0.5 meters while an adult has a wingspan of about 2 meters. A baby leader will be about 1.5 meters tall with a wingspan of about 1 meter. Pyrophoenices can breathe fire, sometimes uncontrollably. They are birds of prey, so they hunt large animals and kill them with their sharp talons. The most skilled pyrophoenices can kill an elk using the flaming trail of its wings. With the meat being cooked, it will provide the flock with food for days. Pyrophoenices are highly social, this is why they are so common. Instead of a sick pyrophoenix not being able to get food and end up dying, the rest of the flock will provide food for it. There are 102 flocks of pyrophoenices in the world. It is extremely uncommon, but when a leader pyrophoenix is reborn into twins, one will fly away with half of the flock, creating a new flock. Pyrophoenices are born knowing how to communicate with each other and how to fly. The entire flock teaches the children how to hunt, allowing each generation to get better and better at it. Pyrophoenices often attack cryophoenices for putting out their fires that symbolize their dominance. The only way a leader can truly die is if a hydrophoenix attacks the flock. If the leader is killed, the others will shrivel up and eventually become a pile of dust." -'Amazing Animals for the Absurdly Absent-Minded' by whitepinecone
