Instructions

Move the paddle (using your mouse) to keep the ball in play. Score 1 for each brick in level 1, 2 in level 2, 3 in level 3, 4 in level 4. Max Score = 500 including 100 bonus for no lives lost. ** Version 1.1 has the speeds adjusted to make the game easier ** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You must move the paddle to under the ball BEFORE the ball arrives otherwise the ball continues slowly past the bat. The ball will rebound evenly if hit with the middle of the paddle but will rebound with spin if hit near the leading or trailing end of the paddle. Try it. The ball moves faster at higher levels. There are 4 levels. The ball can rebound off any of the four sides of a brick. Each serve will be at an angle of -45 or 45 degrees. There is a 2 second delay before each serve.

Description

Written for the SDS - Things to Try! After answering a Forum Question about a Breakout game I made a Pong project using the Scratch Tips. Then I added to the Pong project to make my Breakout game with the ball able to rebound off all four sides of bricks and four levels. The original Breakout was an arcade game developed and published by Atari, Inc, released on May 13, 1976. It was conceptualized by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow, influenced by the 1972 Atari arcade game Pong, and built by Steve Wozniak aided by Steve Jobs. (this note from Wikipedia) Note: You can make the game harder by using the confusing extra backgrounds I have included inside. One alternative backdrop was from a project by @puzzlechemist You can make the game easier by changing the ball speeds for the levels.
