I'm not adding anybody to the map at the moment, but I will most likely update it at some point in the future! Q: Where is the intro-making community? A: I have updated the description of the Japanese community to include a section about them. Q: Where is [insert community here]? A: Most likely the community is too small to be independent. =============Who is on the map?============= A Scratcher is on the map if they meet the following criteria: 1. They have over 1200 followers (including banned/deleted accounts) at the time of data collection. 2. The number of users they are following is less than half the number of followers they have. This is mainly to filter out F4F accounts and speed up data collection. 3. They must be somehow connected to the main map. There are many isolated points that I didn't include because there's no reasonable way for me to find all of them and they are not too interesting to look at anyway. ==========How were the communities calculated?========== The main idea is that a community is a group of points that have many connections between them, but few connections to points in other communities. This means that users in the same community tend to share something in common, e.g. similar interests. The algorithm used to detect communities in this network was modularity maximisation, which can you read more about on Wikipedia. However, the fact that an algorithm was used means that some users will have been put into the wrong community. For example, @WazzoTV makes exclusively animations, however he was put in the Games & Technical community due to his links with other Scratchers there. ==============Personal comments============== This was a fun project to make! I felt nostalgic looking through the profiles of Scratchers I used to know and seeing how they had moved on from Scratch. I also enjoyed learning about the various communities that I had never interacted with before (I never knew Warrior Cats was THAT popular). It will be interesting to see how the map evolves over time, and whether new communities will be formed as new trends make their way to Scratch.
