On this day in 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, along with the help of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and many others. This is the day that all Americans celebrate our official independence from Great Britain. As John Adams once stated: "It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."
