Instructions

This Scratch program displays the international flag alphabet in a Venn diagram. Create three interlocking sets with unique attributes; be able to explain your reasoning for defining each set. It is possible to have items remain outside all three sets. This sorting can help identify unfamiliar flags if you are translating into the alphabet. Controls: Make all the flags larger or smaller using the Scale slider or change the variable manually in the Stage script. Click Don Winslow to cycle through the plaintext and signal flag displays. Press <s> to turn the introductory text and music off. Reset using the stop sign and green flag to begin a new diagram.

In addition to spelling out messages, there are one- two- and three- flag series to quickly communicate with other ships. Navy and commercial ships also use pre-arranged codes signaled by combinations of flags.
