Born in Bonn, Germany, he moved to Vienna in his twenties and studied with Joseph Haydn. His hearing started to deteroriate in the late 1790s, but still continued to compose, even though he was completely deaf! One of his famous pupils are Carl Czerny, who taught the legendary Franz Liszt. His notable works include 9 symphonies, his "Moonlight", "Appasionata", "Waldstein", and "Hammerklavier" sonatas, and many other works for piano. About the Performer: Wilhelm Kempff (1895-1991) was a German pianist. He is most well known for his performances of Beethoven, Schubert, and other German and Austrian composers. He passed away a few months before his 96th birthday.
