Instructions

This program is designed to go along with the Making Shapes - Scratch handout. Here is the link to the handout: http://masstlcef.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Making-Shapes-v4.pdf The handout will guide students through the programming process. No coding background is necessary. A little understanding of interior and exterior angles of polygons maybe helpful. If you don't have the handout (or don't want to use it), just click See inside and create a script to draw an equilateral triangle using the given blocks on your screen in the Coding Area by “snapping” them together. Then run the program by clicking the Green Flag. Once you get the equilateral triangle, try and make other regular polygons - like a Square or Regular Pentagon - by just changing the parameters in certain blocks. As always... Have fun, experiment, and be creative!

Description

There are many ways to make polygons. This is just one way I found useful and applicable to a math class (and hopefully a math teacher) and a math curriculum. The coding in the handout is in no way original and can be found anywhere (with slight differences). It was intended to be used with the Making Shapes - Scratch handout in a math class or as an hour of code activity. Feel free to use it however you feel useful.
