Pancakes are a rare treat. Normally it’s just the usual Nutramix, a combination of nuts, seeds, meat, vegetables and fruit in two bars. To experience the soft, fluffy taste of a pancake draped in maple syrup is a welcome change. I opened the door of my room to the tube, where a hundred others like me were leaping into space, tails working hard to keep them upright. I grinned and joined them. The fur that was outside of my blue training suit ruffled under the jump. I came down feet first in the foam, feeling it’s soft yellow surface sink under my feet. used to its strange qualities by now, I raced to the breakfast area, dodging spires that suddenly appeared, swinging over pits. I finally made it to the cafeteria, streaming in with the others. I dug a fork into a pancake. “STUDENT RALPH THOMAS, PLEASE REPORT TO THE MAIN OFFICE!” I stared mournfully at my uneaten breakfast. Somebody snatched it away and tucked in. Back across the foam. Dodging spires and swinging across pits. I ran into the tube and jumped again. The fans were blowing this time, and I shot up to the top of the tube, bursting through another layer of foam, and coming to land in the Dome. My tail whipped me. “HEY!” I cried out. “I didn’t do ANYTHING wrong, so I’m not in trouble. They just want to tell me something. Another whip. “You know the rules! I’m not allowed to finish if I’m called up!” I yelled at my tail. “Ahem.”
