Space. When it says color RANGE it means not just those colors, also colors close to them. A lot of the sample lions are random designs that won't actually be used. However, their names should give you an idea of what the names for your characters should be like. Only worry about the first names (e.g. Lilah). I'll do the last names (e.g. Stellae).
For the charrie designers (and artists too) in my M.A.S.! Read this! You don't have to draw the scarves if you can't draw that kind of thing. Artists, you do need to be able to draw the scarves. They're not hard.
