Instructions

Welcome to Scratch Composer! WARNING: Clicking on the green start flag will erase all of your music and start will a blank slate! Click carefully. :) (Anyone know how to interrupt the green flag event to ask the user to verify before starting over? I tried to do this with no luck - Scratch deletes all objects before running the user code). To create music, click on (and release - don't drag) the red note in the bottom corner of the screen. This will create a new note that will follow your mouse to the music staffs. Click again to drop the note onto the staff. No need to be exact - the note will snap into position. Any note may be clicked on to create a new note. Notes may be dragged into new positions, even onto different staffs. The sharps work similarly: Click to create a new one and drag it so that it touches the note that you wish to play as a sharp. Create drum and percussion sounds in a similar manner. They can be anywhere in the window - positions on or off the staffs make no difference. They have more than one possible sound: Position your mouse over it (don't click) and press 's' to change the sound. You'll hear the sound you have set it to. To delete a note, sharp or other sound, hover over it with your mouse and press 'd'. Click on the instruments to change them. I would LOVE to hear songs that you have created! You will need to use another program to record your computer's sounds.

Description

This started as a minor idea for an exercise to use in the computer programming class I teach to elementary school kids. I liked it so much I kept working on it, adding more features. I hope you like it too. To add: Background music? Record feature? Don't think this can be built into Scratch...? If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know. Control to adjust the playline speed. Individual instrument volume controls. Playline drag ability. Add vertical guide lines to the staffs. Horizontal snap? Adjust length of notes by staff - or even individual notes? Multiple playlines.
