This is what green house gasses are. Basically the sun sends heat to the earth and the earth sends some back. But some doesn't go through the atmosphere and stays at earth. Every time that happens earth gets a little warmer. Also we effect it, our trucks and cars and airplanes are using fuel and sending off exhaust that floats up to the atmosphere and blocks heat from getting out.
