Notes: ~ You MUST be a Scratcher for the "total number of catches" variable to work! Saliva ~ Helps break down food into bolus Bolus ~ Chewed-up food Chyme ~ Bolus broken up by stomach acid Stomach acid ~ Substance that breaks up bolus into chyme Bile ~ Clean chyme/nutrients Dirty Soup ~ Stuff that goes out Heart ~ Gives you an extra life! Overview: 1. Mouth --> chew, saliva, tongue 2. Esophagus --> 10" tube for transport. 3. Stomach --> Stomach acid breaks down food into chyme (soup of food) 4. Small intestine (SI) --> Sends nutrients into bloodstream to liver. 5. Liver --> cleans nutrients/makes bile. 6. Pancreas --> Receives bile from liver, then sends it towards the SI again. Bile breaks down fat into smaller chunks to pass through SI into bloodstream.(Blood stream sends extra bile to Gall bladder.) 7. Large intestine (LI) --> reabsorb water.
