Instructions

Welcome to the world of Pokémon! This is a meticulous recreation of some of the mechanics and design (including scrolling!) of Pokémon Blue and Red, with a few custom additions. You begin your adventure in a nature reserve, tasked with identifying and capturing 12 strange, cow-like Pokémon that appear to imitate modern art. Good luck, and catch 'em all! ==Controls== -Arrow keys: move the character/move the cursor. -Space bar: interact with the sign/proceed (when the cursor is on screen) -M: open/close the Map -A: open/close the Art Gallery ==Catching Pokémon== -Walk in the tall grass or swim in the water until a wild Pokémon pops out and a battle starts. -Admiring the Pokémon makes it harder to catch, but less likely to run away. -Ignoring the Pokémon makes it easier to catch, but more likely to run away. --Both of these give an extra description of the Pokémon, so try them out! -If you don't want to try to capture the Pokémon, you can just walk away. ==Art Gallery== -Once you see a Pokémon for the first time, a little bit of information will pop up in the Art Gallery. A gray Pokéball will pop up by their name the next time you encounter it in the wild. -After capturing a Pokémon, all of the information will be recorded into the Art Gallery, and a red Pokéball will pop up by their name the next time you encounter it in the wild. ==Map== -Shows you the entire nature reserve, and where you are.

Description

Please read the instructions before embarking on your adventure! Also inform me of any bugs you find while playing. The game is fairly large, so it might be difficult for some computers to run. ==Area Information== -Each route contains two unique wild Pokémon. -Route 1: A recreation of the original Route 1. -Route 2: A road for biking; no Pokémon live here. -Route 3: A walking path with a few grassy patches scattered about. -Meadow: A tranquil meadow in the middle of a forest. -Lake: A large swimming lake with platforms for walking on. -Mountains: A labyrinth of cliff faces with small grassy areas. -Park: A massive swath of area with a variety of environments. ==Purpose== This game is designed as a teaching device and as an intersection between technology and expression. ==Credits== I do not claim ownership of any of the components of this game that are directly copied from or bear visual similarity to the Pokémon Red and Blue games created by Nintendo, Creature inc., and GAME FREAK inc. VMB's "Cow Guide to Modern Art Styles" -Realistic Cow: http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/sites/default/files/images/images2/cows_350.jpg Art Information: -Realism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realism_(art_movement) -Fauvism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fauvism -Abstract Expressionism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_expressionism -Symbolism: http://www.theartstory.org/movement-symbolism.htm -Dadaism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dada -Futurism: http://www.theartstory.org/movement-futurism.htm -Constructivism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructivism_(art) -De Stijl: http://www.theartstory.org/movement-de-stijl.htm -Cubism: http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/cube/hd_cube.htm -OP Art: http://www.theartstory.org/movement-op-art.htm -Pop Art: http://www.theartstory.org/movement-pop-art.htm -Romanticism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanticism Visuals created using Microsoft Paint and GIMP. Sound edited with Audacity. ==Stats for Nerds== Catch Rate: -There's a 20% chance catch rate at the beginning of each battle. -Ignoring boosts the catch rate by 5% (e.g. to 25%) -Admiring decreases the catch rate by 5% (e.g. to 15%) Run Rate: -There's a 20% chance run rate at the beginning of each battle. -Ignoring boosts the run rate by 5% (e.g. to 25%) -Admiring decreases the run rate by 5% (e.g. to 15%) Thus, after admiring the Pokémon 4 times, it won't run, but is also impossible to catch. Encounter rate: -Every step in tall grass or in the water yields a 5% chance for a wild Pokémon to appear. Part of the Park is similar in design to World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros.
