Description

This cat is called River that Startles the Weak. She is an adult she-cat with a tragic backstory. On the right is her past self, on the left is the present River. In the middle is the Tribe's waterfall, on the left is the blood and hurt from the younger cat, while on the left is River's new home. Here is her backstory written by my friend Grace: River is a Cliffclan she-cat hailing from Tribe of Rushing Water with pretty grey eyes and a thin and soft white dappled pelt. She is strong and stocky as well as intelligent, coordinated, polite, and strong. River had three other siblings, from an earlier litter, and the siblings were inseparable. All their names go as presented: Beautiful Lily that Blooms in Season (She cat), Dark Smoke that Breathes Air (Tomcat), and Fire that Freezes in Ice (Tomcat). River’s full name was ‘River that Startles the Weak’. All three became skilled and untouchable prey-hunters while River was a cave-guard to-be. One dawn, River awoke to the yowls of her siblings calling her out to play in the Great Waterfall; a crystal pool of water with a rushing lapse of water filling it higher than the second before. Many young cats in this tribe held games of tag, hide and seek, in this pool of water but never actually went into it; falling into the water only spelled death because the water rushed wildly and had cavernous sharp rocks at the dark bottom that had claimed many pelts in their time. Cautiously hopping to one large stone in the middle River’s tail lowly hung behind her catching the drifting and thrashing feel of the water and its true power. Watching her siblings teasingly jump from stone to stone around her the two brothers, Smoke and Fire, broke out into a wrestle that turns rowdy and rough hanging on the edge of the stone. Lily and River grow concerned remembering the stories the elders had told them of the treacherous black rocks down below that have maimed pelts, and the rapid waters that have cracked the necks of those clumsy enough to fall into the pool. Leaning off the edge of the stone they then tumble into the water. River looks to Lily and defies her better judgement by jumping in to save them. Being extra careful River sticks beside Lily who jumps in after her. Opening her eyes in the water River is finally able to see just how large her siblings are, and older, when compared to her. On top of that how large the pool of water was in comparison. In a nutshell, the black and jaggedly sharp rocks contrasting with the clear and visible water make for a scary experience. Thrashed around River faintly hears the concerned meows of the rest of the tribe gather around the edges of the pool and yet is solely focused on pushing down farther to the bottom. With hope, River pulls ahead almost grasping the tuft of Smoke with her unsheathed claws, but is stopped by the eerily gurgled yowl of Lily and her chest being poked through in a long, stick-like, rock with the blood slowly seeping through to color the water. Running out of breath, River was heartbroken; Lily was suffering and there was nothing she could do about her drowning brothers. As River turned to save her brothers the same thin, long, smaller rocks lining the bottom of the cavernous pool uprooted with the strong force of one wave the waterfall created. Smoke and Fire were instantly swung around like light feathers through the water and were slammed into the cave wall. Before River knew it she was the only one left, and with the strong wave was an inbound rock that had uprooted heading straight for her. Luckily it didn’t kill River but it jammed through her left hind leg and shards scraped her back opening one large line from her hind leg to her neck. All she could see was red and she blacked out. During this time River was visited by a cat claiming to be of Starclan, a medicine cat from seasons, seeming eons ago to Cliffclan. She didn’t say her name but told River she would become a medicine cat just as her one day. Nothing else was said from the stranger before River was woken up in the secluded camp with her fur now warm and dry. River’s thoughts were confused and left in the dark while her red wound was the only thing bright. Catching on to being the only surviving, River tells Stoneteller what she can about the ‘strange medicine cat from Starclan’. His eyes widen and he just seems to nod as if he saw this coming; River could barely stand let alone become a caveguard. If as though what the Starclan cat said was true, Stoneteller accepted River’s leave. However said she had to have healed and walked without guidance before doing so as she was gushing blood and tearing muscle. This deed was fulfilled a while after once River had fully healed. Nothing was to stop her in leaving once Stoneteller gave her word even if she would miss her parents. Still mourning, and still very young, River left ready to learn the ways of a clan-cat. Lineart belongs to Darkflight. The Tribe belongs to Erin Hunter.
