Description

A short story about a girl struggling with her faith. Press [SPACE] for the next slide. - T H Y W I L L B E D O N E - ** Read the following only AFTER you have completed going through the entire story ** If you did not understand the story, here are a few highlights that I would like to point out: 1) "... almost as if trying to receive warmth from the lifeless pieces of cloth." The main character is trying to find comfort in a worldly object. In Christianity, one lesson is that we need to find comfort in God -- not our physical belongings. This is meant to show that she is losing her faith. 2) "My fingers traced the thin paper of the book before me." The main character did not hold the Bible close to her heart or grasp it in a protective manner. She only ever so slightly touched it. She wasn't truly in-depth with her own religion. 3) "What happened to 'I will never forsake you?'" God makes multiple promises in the Bible, one of them being that he would never forsake those he loves (which is all of us). Many people doubt or begin to doubt their faith because of the hardships they go to, and it's as if God has been quiet. 4) "... my knees scratched by the rough ends of my carpet." Falling had a greater effect on the main character. She is now physically wounded. (This can be related to actual self-harm.) 5) "I grabbed at my chest... trying to makes sure my nerves existed. No pain." The main character doesn't believe that she has a soul anymore. she doesn't feel as if she's alive. She's empty -- unable to feel any emotion at all. 6) "Shattered. But not completely destroyed." No matter how broken we become, we can be put back together or even made to become stronger and better than we were before. It's not the fall that kills you. It's the landing. If you haven't reached the very bottom yet, you still have a chance. 7) "With each crystal-like blade came a cut..." Each cut represents a different obstacle when we try to reach our goals. We have to endure the pain in order to get to the very end. The main character did not give up and was then able to reap the rewards. 8) Note the time of day! I think the lighting speaks for itself. Literal lighting. "Thy Will Be Done" is an entire story that is built up on metaphors. It's a compressed version of the struggle that my sister and I shared when it came to faith. This was, in fact, made for her birthday. The coloured words (other than the ones that mention emotion) are lyrics to Hillary Scott's song, 'THY WILL.' ___ Music - Thy Will (Instrumental) by HILLARY SCOTT Was anyone online when I posted this at 9:22 PM???
