Commodore Pellew is on the Indefatigable in the bottom right corner. He will tell you what to do. Use Z and X to toggle the variables on/off. When an island is occupied by french soldiers, you can bombard the island (shoot cannonballs at it), but each time a cannonball hits an island it is only a 1 in 5 chance it will hit a french soldier. The other option is to land men on the island. To do this, go to island and type how many men you want to send ashore.
