We were halfway to the camp when thunder rumbled in the distance,rain poured down heavily as me and Jayflight ran for shelter.I shook out my thick pelt under a canopy of leaves.Jayflight shuddered and sat down. “Looks like we’ll be delayed.”He flicked his soaking wet tail. “I guess,”I sat down heavily next to Jayflight. “I’m gonna try to find something to eat,”Jayflight meowed,setting off into the rain. Dark clouds circled overhead like vultures.I waited for Jayflight to come back.A few hours later I was still waiting.I fidgeted and eventually decided to leave the shelter.The rain soaked my pelt immediately as I padded towards the path Jayflight took.I was close to a sheltered cleaning when nearby I heard a loud yowl.I ran towards the voice,shocked there could be cats so close to The Moonlit Stars' territory.I reached the clearing and stopped dead.A brown tom was standing over Jayflight.Jayflight struggled to get free from the tom’s claws but just tired himself out.The brown tom lifted his paw to give the killing blow. “No!”I yowled but it was too late,Jayflight was dead. The brown tom smiled,blood on his face and paws.The tom turned and padded slowly away,as if he wanted me to challenge him.I didn’t.I stared in shock at Jayflight’s body. “No..”I croaked and ran to him,pushing my nose into his fur. Jayflight warmth was already fading.I cried myself to sleep next to him. I buried Jayflight near where he died.I stood at his grave,staring at the ground.I left a few hours later,padding slowly in the direction of Thunderclan.I reached the camp and hesitated.What will I tell the tribe?I eventually convinced myself to enter the clearing.I padded to Icestar’s den,my head down. “Goldenmoon?”Sparrowfeather padded up to me. I continued walking. “What..?”Sparrowfeather stared in silence after me. I leaped onto the Moon Rock and padded into Icestar’s den. “Icestar?”Icestar looked up at me in surprise. “Goldenmoon,”She gasped quietly. “Where’s Jayflight?” I looked at her,tears in my eyes. “Dead,”I sobbed. “How..?”Icestar murmured. “A cat killed him,snapped his neck.” “Oh no..”Icestar stared at me in silence. “Goldenmoon..I’m so sorry..”Icestar sat up and gestured to me with her tail. I was swinging on my paws and then I fell.Icestar caught me and wrapped her tail around me.I leaned on her heavily.Icestar curled up around me. “It's okay..”She murmured.
