Chapter twelve ✉ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The dinner at the Great Hall had been gobbled up and the students returned to their dormitories to end off the day. But, we had different plans. "Scaly skin..teeth? No?" Ryanne was scribbling uneasily in her patched notebook. Lavender yawned from her armchair. "Lavender" she snapped, looking up from her book "don't yawn, it shows how uninterested you are!" Ryanne turned back to scribbling. 'Ugh" Lavender said, rolling her eyes. The armchair I was sitting on rocked gently. The common room was lit dimly by the fire, also heating us up. "Ryanne" I said excitedly "remember the trail it left? Write that too!" She was struck by the idea and decided to scribble faster. The noises of moans from the shatters of the windows could be heard but above that, a shrill, fading screech was piercing the air. "Owls" I said, rocking the chair and leaning in. "My hand hurts" Ryanne scrunched her tired hand. Before anyone could reply, gentle footsteps were approaching. Not the common room. Just outside the hall. We turned to look at the hug door, and noises came from the other side. Tap tap tap. Leaping up, I creeped up to the door like a lion, stalking prey. I came close enough to hear breathing. A student. I swung the door open and raised my wand into the persons face. A girl. Evelyn. What was a Ravenclaw doing at the Gryffindor common room door? I lowered my wand from her neck in apology. "Sorry" I mumbled embarrassedly. Instead of reacting, she smiled. "It's okay" but her face went dead serious. "I have something to tell you..its really important..."
