I rolled my eyes as Maria glanced at me. I closed the door behind me and locked it. “What have I said about doing chemistry on the couch?” “It might explode the apartment.” She said in an annoyed voice. I chuckled softly and sat down next to her. “Any reason why you’re back from the lab this early? Usually I’m home alone until 9.” “There was a minor explosion at my lab today. I dismissed everyone and told them to come back at 8:30 sharp.” I smiled warmly at her. But then a message popped up on my phone. I left it on the table where she securely put the vials back in their case. It was a message from Sonic, labeled as “Babhee ?”. Written by him, of course. I was labeled as “Sir Hotstuff” on his phone. OH FUDGE MARIAS GONNA SEE- It was too late. She saw the message on my phone and started to reach for it. I slow to intercept it, her reflexes are quick! “What's this?” She said and started to insert the password into my phone. “Oh nothing, hey whats in those vials?” I replied, trying to change the subject and maybe swipe the phone away from her. Her eyes lit up. “Shadow, do you have a girlfriend?!” “Uhhh-” “Oh em gee! What a cute pet-name! What's her name? WAIT!! Is it Amy?” Quick, think! “No its-” “Wait, I can just check the contact.” “Oh actually I can just-” But the words failed to escape my mouth as her eyes widened as she probably saw who it actually was. She looked up at me, her expression too hard to read. “Maria…it's probably time I told you something…. I like guys.” My face went red. “Girls too!! But guys also…” I trailed off. “Oh Shadow… why didn’t you tell me?” “I was scared you didn’t want to be my friend anymore.” She took my hands into hers, my gloves exaggerated the size of my hands, so it looked like I was holding hers. “Shadow, no matter what you do, how you look, who you like, I’ll always be your best friend. No matter what. I only care about you and your feelings. And it looks like a certain speedy blue hedgehog caught the eyes of my best friend.” She winked. “So, how long have you and Sonic been dating?” “Almost four years now.” “Whew! You can keep a secret!
