Instructions

File: Organism: Marine gecko Height: 15 cm (male), 18 cm (female) Length: 58 cm (male), 73 cm (female) Description: A relative of the kelp eel, these intelligent creatures are often spotted using their four limbs to grab onto the tall rocks in the shadow kelp zone, basking in the sunlight. Contrary to belief however, these creatures are not carnivores, consuming kelp and other alien plants. Unlike most creatures on 496, the male and females marine geckos are different. Males have a longer snout, and a flatter crest used to attract mates. However, they are also sometimes utilised as self-defense. Females though, are larger, have darker and greener skin, and a longer crest better adapted to fighting and cutting opponents. Sometimes, groups of marine geckos are found protecting or being led by a female "alpha." "Alphas" share similar appearance and behaviour to the average female, except for the fact that they are much larger (around 20 cm tall and 83 cm long) and relentless. They are also highly protective of their group, sometimes even spotted fighting larger predators. The thing in common about both genders of marine gecko however, is their deadly venom-tipped thagomizer. With three spikes lined on each side, its what allows them to survive most encounters with larger predators, the venom being strong enough to kill an average shadow stalker in just a few hours.
