Chapter eight ✉ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The students were led to their dormitories by the house prefects. The corridors were lit brightly by small lanterns and the bustle of students were crammed in it all. I tried to keep up with the others but my stomach was fuller than a gas tank that doubled on petroleum. I had never eaten that much! Though, catching her breath alongside me was..Ryanne. No matter what she was always just two steps away from me. She probably loved having friends nearby and I didn't mind, actually I loved that she was just always there. I always felt a bit lonely before coming to Hogwarts. Just being through the school for half an hour told me that this place was home. The students halted and one prefect girl in the front said the password to a rather fat lady portrait at the entrance of a huge door which obviously had to be the Gryffindor common room door. "Mom breath" she said, ignoring the snickering behind her. The fat lady smiled and said, in a rather thick tone "Correctamundo!" she swayed and the doors opened with a loud creak. The common room was warm. A fire dazzled in the corner, heating the whole cozy room with each sizzle. A carpet lay on the floor, accompanied by two chairs and a little behind that were two different staircases, leading to different doors. 'Dormitories" as they were called. They were separate for "boys" and "girls". The group separated and the common room was spread out with pupils sitting on chairs, sleepily walking into their dormitories and chatting. "So, want to have some fun!?" Ryanne asked eagerly, pushing away some hair that had gotten into her eyes. I yawned and smiled. There wasn't the slightest sleep in her voice. I shook my head. "Aren't you tired?" I asked, walking tiredly to the girls dormitory stairs. "Oh come on.." she pleaded "I'm not gonna have anyone to play with!" she looked disappointed so I finally agreed. "I have wizard chess, exploding snap, tr-" I laughed. She had quite the collection. "Lets play wizard chess tonight!" I said. Normal chess was pretty easy anyways, Hermione had taught me how to play when I was seven but I had NEVER played wizard chess before. We waited for the cushion seats beside the fire to be abandoned before seating ourselves into them. The fire warmth reached us with fiery flames as Ryanne pulled a small box from her little bag that was dangling below her arm. The box was fancy on the cover, entitled "Wizard Chess" in shimmery blue letters. Inside, different players stood carefully in their positions. "Get us out of here!" a deep, male voice called cursingly. Ryanne lifted the box cover and immediately the characters inside began scrambling and catching their breaths. The chess pieces were placed onto the board by Ryanne, which they didn't seem to like. "Argh! That's my waist! Watch your smelly fingers! Keep your hands off my horse!!" the pieces were fiercely protecting their things. We played chess through the cold night and it was surprisingly better than human-chess. Or in the wizard world, it's called "Muggle-chess" Finally, Ryanne yawned, and I told her it was time to head to our dormitory. She packed up and we headed up the stairs leading to the 'girls dormitory'. When we opened the door, lay on the four poster was Lavender and another Gryffindor girl, fast asleep. Beside each one were tables, each which held a small lamp. I tiptoed to my bunk and climbed up to the tippy top, lying there on my back, staring at the ceiling, smiling to myself...
