Hey guys! I have been doing a lot of traditional art lately, tryna get out of my comfort zone. I will also drop a MAP part some time next week/this weekend :> With that said, here is my undone Nova-Star mask! I used only cardboard, tape, paper, cheap markers, and a glue gun so far. I will add the fabric on top later because I dont have enough atm. Steps I took to make it (I had no idea what I was doing as I didn't watch any tutorials lol) The frame----------------------------------------------------------->> 1. I start with some cardboard and cut a long strip. I measure it around my head and glue it in a circle. 2. From there, I add 2 more thing strips on the front of the head. 3. I attach a chin piece from those 2. 4. I bend a piece into 3 sections and use it for the snout. 5. Flesh out the snout and make a muzzle-cagey thing. The eyes ----------------------------------------------------------->> 6. Since I don't have traditional eye-making materials, I substitute it with some tape. I cut the hole for the eye and prepare some tape large enough to cover it. 7. I draw in the pupil with a black marker, then use other colors to make it. If you use this method, then use fairly transparent material (as in don't completely cover it or use crayons or something or you will be blinded). Pro tip: use your finger to gently smudge the color so it isn't chunky. 8. I stick the piece of tape in. This can be from the inside or outside. 9. On the sticky side of the tape, cut a similarly-sized piece and stick it on the tape. Try to make this fairly even. Your design could get messed up if this step goes wrong. 10. (optional) For extra measure, you can use your glue gun to really make sure it sticks. Outlining the Face------------------------------------------------>> 11. I use paper to outline my details. I start by wrapping the paper gently around the snout. To glue it, do one part at a time and try to avoid bending the paper as much as possible. Cut off any excess paper. 12. Once the snout is complete, do the eyes. Avoid covering them, because cutting will be difficult. Instead, carefully go around. 13. For the head, you will want to do a main piece of paper and stick it over. Adjust as needed. Outlining Details in your design------------------------------->> 14. For any other details (ex: hair, floof on the side, hat, etc) you can do cardboard if they are large. If smaller and not as prominent, you can just add some paper. Also, paper = loose. So if your character has floppy hair, I think paper would be better. (I didn't actually finish so take these future steps with a grain of salt plz. You can skip this and just paint on the paper if you would like ^^) Adding color-------------------------------------------------------->> Depending on design, pick out felt and start adding. Always start with the color underneath. So if your character has stripes, maybe start with a base color first. Cut the fabric neatly, try to use sharper angles when possible. Cover the whole design so that you can't see any paper or cardboard. Make sure to test with every detail. One mistake will make a huge difference! You could also measure it out but I am too lazy :p You have now created a head mask of your character, congrats!
Also I am not a furry, I think its going to be cool since I want to start a yt channel (it can conceal my face) and I can make animation (act out the movement, trace over) After I finish the head, I will probably make some wings+body, after that tail, claws, feet. I don't have anything against furries, only the minority of them do that crazy stuff where they attack you or whatever, most of them are just chill cosplayers
