(click/space for next) The emperor lepel (Lepel Koning) is descendant of the Eurasian spoonbill that inhabits lowlands of Europe. Just like spoonbills of our era, these birds hunt fish using their spoon-shaped bill. But the emperor lepel is more than just a mere piscivore. Around dusk, these predators search for little rodents between the reeds and grasses.
Also "lepel" means "spoon" in Dutch :P
