When some cats find out the truth, they are usually excited about what they learned.Well,I wasn’t some cat. “What?”I screamed. Willow backed away. “I thought you knew!” “You are you?”I asked dangerously. “I told you.”She meowed.Dipping her head to me. “I am Willow, deputy of the Dark Warriors and protector of the Dark Forest.” I gasped. “You can’t be.” She looked up. “I am.” “Where are we?”I asked, looking around. “A hideout.”Willow meowed. “Ivywing wants you here, for now.Until you're fully trained.” “Fully trained?”Goldenmoon asked, sitting up. “For what?” “Why the war of course!”Willow said.I could tell she was excited and her tail was twitching. “Oh,you don’t know.”She gasped.Goldenmoon turned and her mouth hung open. “There’s something behind me,isn’t there?”I sighed as Willow nodded.I spun around. The cat behind me had a fluffy white coat with bright green eyes and blue streaks in her fur.She padded towards me. “Hey,kid.”She licked my ear as she passed, like she’d know me forever, not a few seconds. “Willow, gather cats to patrol the border.Red!”She started listing off names and I was getting bored. I shared a glance with Goldenmoon. Then, the camp was empty, except the white she-cat.She turned around. “Hello, you may know me as Ivywing.”She had that nervous gaze that Jayflight always had when he was talking to someone. “Are you really our mother?”Ivywing looked at me. “Your’s,”then she looked at Goldenmoon darkly. “Not her’s.” “What do you mean?”She circled us with a bored expression. “Goldenmoon has a future that can’t be saved.”She looked at me. “Your’s can be tough..Hollythorn.” “How do you know my name?”I knew it was a stupid question, given how she named me.Then I was thrown into a memory. The air was so thick with fear, you could breathe it if you wanted to.I looked at my surroundings. Then I saw Jayflight.Except,he was younger.Only a little older than the she-kit we saw.He was fighting for his life against golden tom.The other tom's eyes were dark red and he barely had a scratch on him.Jayflight suddenly tripped and fell. The golden tom jumped on him.Jayflight looked up at him. Then I remembered, the kit that golden tom was holding down had blue eyes, not red like Jayflight’s.But the kit looked just like him. “Jayflight!”The golden tom hissed. “You’re supposed to be better.” “I-i’m sorry!”Jayflight stammered.I’ve never seen him this scared. “‘Sorry’ doesn’t cut it!.”Sunscar snapped. Then he turned and yelled at someone. “Bring me the discipliner.” Discipliner? What a funny name.I thought.Even Jayflight snickered. “Silence!”roared Sunscar. And even I shut up.The cat Sunscar yelled at came forward with something in his paws.Whatever it was must’ve been hot, because the cat’s paws were burned.Sunscar picked it up and pressed it against Jayflight’s shoulder.Jayflight yowled in agony. And when Sunscar removed the thing and left on Jayflight’s shoulder was the mark of a broken star. I sat up and gasped.I was back in the camp,Jayflight and Goldenmoon were beside me.Jayflight looked at me. “Hello,”He meowed. “Hollythorn!”Goldenmoon gasped.I looked around in confusion. “How’d you find me?”I asked. “Goldenmoon carried you here.”Jayflight answered, looking into the distance. I gasped.“Do we still have to leave?” Jayflight sighed, “Yes,It's for your own good.” “Is the broken star a sign of the Dark Forest?”I asked cautiously.Jayflight sighed again. “Yes,But how do you-” “I have my reasons.”I meowed. “But why do you have it?” Jayflight’s tail twitched. “Oh,”He looked down. “Every cat who ever trained in the Dark Forest has it.” “If the Dark Forest’s a threat,”I said, thinking out loud. “Then we just look to see which cats have it and banish them.” “It's not that easy.”Jayflight said, shaking his head. “Half the clan might be Dark Forest warriors, then how will they recover?” “Oh,”I looked around for ideas.Nothing came to me. “What if we find out but don’t say anything?”Goldenmoon said. “Then we’ll know who to trust.” Jayflight nodded. “That might work.”She looked at Jayflight. He met her gaze. “I left them a long time ago.”He looked up at the sky and closed his eyes. “You still need to leave.”He reminded them. “I don’t want to go!”I could feel the tears forming in my eyes. “I’m sorry.”He looked at me,like he was seeing me for the first time. “Can you come too?”Goldenmoon asked. But we both knew the answer. “No,”Jayflight shook his head. “Jayflight..”I tried to say. “Good-bye Hollythorn.”And the darkness swallowed me.
