first of all, quinn explains this beautifully and theirs is much more well-written than mine lol, so you should definitely go check out the original project <3 secondly, i'd like to add my thoughts on the issue of oorp hate in generations. because it's bad. really bad. and it needs to be solved. and that all starts with sharing my story. glorypaw. a famous name in the generations community now. a character i loved dearly, my favorite character i'd ever roleplayed as, the one i was most active with. how could it be, that just a couple months later, i would hate him with a burning fury, never to roleplay him ever again? it all started when glorypaw possessed the flurryclan leader, jollystar. i was so excited for him to be taking this direction!! he wanted revenge on flurryclan so badly, and he could do so much with this position! and, of course, it would be very, very fun, wouldn't it? after all, i loved roleplaying evil characters!! they were the best!! he changed the prey order to be purposefully awful. he gave over 200 prey to urchinclan. he killed multiple cats just because he felt like it. he was causing so much irp drama, and i loved it. then crime reports came in. i devised a punishment method - if the cat wasn't flurryclan, no punishment. if they were, confined to camp for two weeks, and if they had committed the crime repeatedly or it was serious - execution. would i regret that decision? absolutely. three kits had stolen from the prey pile more than three times, which made them eligible for execution. glorypaw was very happy to kill them. everyone irp was horrified. it was awesome. what was not awesome is what happened next oorp. people flooded my profile, yelling at me. they talked behind my back about me, and everyone was ranting on and on about the awful person who had unfairly, unjustly, killed innocent kits. they called /me/ horrible for what my character had done. hey. yall. glorypaw's evil, yes. i'm not. it may have been a terrible thing to do irp, but oorp? i'm just a kid trying to roleplay my character, man. i don't like killing your beloved character, but that's what you risk when you commit a crime under an evil leader knowingly. they claimed i did it unfairly, that killing kits was wrong and not allowed, that doing it for stealing prey wasn't allowed, that they hadn't stolen enough times or committed a serious enough crime, that possessed leaders couldn't execute... everything. they reported me to fal - three or four of them. and since they outnumbered me? fal believed them. she changed the execution to an exiling, and everyone was /so happy/. i was stunned. i had triple-checked /everything/ to make sure what i was doing was allowed. these people were just salty that their or their friends' characters had died so suddenly, and took out their hatred of glorypaw on me. killing those kits was wrong, yes. but i was staying true to the character, and everything was done completely legally oorp. glorypaw's actions do not reflect mine, and i should not receive his hate. he may be evil. i am not. and, the worst part? most of these people, i had considered friends. at least irp buddies. popular, well-liked people, with popular, well-liked characters. people who have actually stood up against oorp hate. they turned on me. they all did. i felt so betrayed, so hurt. i gave back jollystar's body, and swore to never roleplay glorypaw again. that's how much it affected me. i still have not rolepayed glorypaw again to this day. these distorted screenshots in the project? they're actual screenshots of oorp hateful comments. i made sure to make them unreadable, ofc, but there's about 20 of them in there. and some of them are really bad. gens community. come on, guys, i'm disappointed in you. this needs to stop.
you may be thinking, well, that was just a one-time thing, right? cause of how evil glorypaw was! ha. no. this has been happening to almost every single evil character, and many others who aren't even evil. i give massive support to the roleplayers of meadowrise, peahenstar, radiovenom, stellar, and others who were affected by the recent hate around the mossclan rebellion. that was...a lot of drama, even though i wasn't a part of it, and it was all awful and affected everyone so much. you may be thinking, well, that's just a part of big roleplays, right? cause people are imperfect, it's bound to happen! while all roleplays do experience a small amount of hate, this is 100% a gens issue. in tss, my character chalcedonyshield just started a civil war because she was angry faer father didn't pick xem for deputy. sure, loads of characters irp absolutely hate her, but i've gotten absolutely zero hate oorp, just good jobs and hype!! because evil characters are supposed to be fun, and they can be!! this is wild and such an amazing experience in tss, especially compared to how glorypaw and meadowrise were treated when they did a similar thing. so, guys. oorp hate is just really not okay. there is a person behind that screen, and they're just trying to roleplay their evil character well. sure, your character can hate theirs irp, but their character does not reflect the person at all, and they should not be getting any hate for a fictional battle cat's actions. gens is supposed to be a safe, kind, welcoming community. let's make sure it stays that way. so many of us have been hurt. so many of us have left gens, killed off their characters, and taken long breaks because of this. i don't think i'll ever rp with glorypaw again. i don't feel very sad that sun, my other evil character, died. my new character, maroonkit, is the absolute most goody-two-shoes you can get, because i'm terrified of this happening to me again. i don't want to be broken again. i don't want to almost /leave gens/ again. because i almost did. and so have so many people. so everyone, please, be thoughtful and considerate of what you say to people, other real people, who are not their characters. let us enjoy our characters in peace, and roleplay them true to their character. let us and them be ourselves. and not just don't do it, stand up for others when it happens to them! comfort the victims, confront the haters, report the incident to fal. if we all work together, we can stop this from happening so much. oorp hate needs to stop. and we can stop it. we just all have to try.
