Armenian Television ("հայկական հեռուստատեսություն (Haykakan Herrustatesut’yun)" in Armenian, ATV or ՀՀU for short), is, like the name suggests, an Armenian television network, with headquarters based in Gyumri, that currently operates on VHF channel 13. It was founded in 1989 as a private station during the Armenian struggle for independence as "Հայերի անկախության մասնավոր հեռուստատեսություն (Private Television for the Independence of the Armenians)". After Armenian independence was granted from the Soviet Union, the station was publicized and renamed "Հայկական ժողովրդական կայան (Armenian Popular Station)". In 2000, the station was renamed "Armenian Television" after the public television station of the same name changed its name to "Հայաստանի հանրային հեռուստաընկերություն (Public Television of Armenia)".
