Hello, and welcome to this scriptwriting workshop, written by Maddie where we are going to help you write a successful script, in case you'd like to host auditions for an animation/audiobook/movie/tv show one day! There are many steps in this process, and we are going to go through all of them today! Without further Ado, let's get started! GETTING STARTED: You might be lying on your bed for hours, tossing and turning because: You can't come up with the story for your script. Sometimes when people come up with a plot, they scrap it right away, and that's completely normal because: Not everything we write is always good. I know, I know, you're probably like 'Maddie, my mom told me that everything you do is good, you can just make it better...' and all that stuff. But in reality some things are just poorly created, and that's perfectly okay! Growth will always be an option, and you can just recreate it, but make it even better! Let's look at an example. Disney's 'Wish' was not very greatly written (No offense to those who like the movie) it has a quirky protagonist, who is kindhearted, and that's not what's bad about it. The plot was messy. The caption of the movie is 'Be careful what you wish for.' which completely goes against what the movie talks about, which is basically that everyone's wish should be granted, and that anyone who says otherwise is evil and must be overthrown. No offense, but this was poorly written. If they had structured it just a little bit better, it could have been a good disney movie, sadly that was not the case. The best way to come up with a storyline is to write one line, with very little detail about what you want your story to be about. Then expand from there, creating a paragraph, of what you want it to be about, then four, outlining the entire story you've just drafted. Afterward, take a look at it, and see if it has any plot holes. If it does, you HAVE to fill them or it won't be as solid as it could be. And you've just figured out your script's main idea. CREATING CHARACTERS: This is probably one of the most IMPORTANT parts of writing literally anything. The characters. If the characters are bad, the story is bad. I love it when characters are unique, and different, so of course I'm not going to tell you EXACTLY how to create a character. But I will tell you this one main rule: DO NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES make your character a Mary Sue. A Mary Sue is when a character has absolutely no flaws and no weaknesses, and that's just an overused character dynamic. Give your character flaws and quirks and humor! It makes them memorable that way! After you've made sure that's been avoided, write a character chart to fill in the blanks a little better! And there are your characters, my friend!! GETTING INTO WRITING: Now that you've got what you want to write, and who you want to write about, you've got to actually write it! Find a quiet space at home, and just relax. Get into your story, and go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens. You can fix it later! Here is your assignment: -Write one sentence explaining an idea you have for a script. -Expand it, turning it into one paragraph. -Beef it up with three paragraphs -Write 2 character charts -Write a minimum of a 750 word script using what you have! You will earn 3400 points for this GOTS!! You will earn 350 extra points if you voice act it!!
