She didn't have a name, and she was fine with that her whole life. But now, in her current predicament, she couldn't help but wonder if anyone would remember her if she died. She had no mother, no father, no living family. She would probably just melt into the surrounding sounds and sights of the woods after she died, no one caring about her at all. The sharp growling of her pursuers snapped the cat from her thoughts. The wolves were coming closer and closer. She gritted her teeth, and pushed herself onwards with her remaining strength. She already had several injuries and slashes on her face and chest, but she knew how to cure them. She had grown up using the plants of the beach to survive. It was the only way to live. Finally, the she-cat broke through the trees and took her first step onto hot sands. She ran a few more tail-lengths onto the beach and stopped, winded. She slowly turned around, expecting the wolves to be right on top of her. But to her surprise, they had stopped at the edge of the woods, snarling and growling but not daring to come up to the open sands. She wondered why. Suddenly a patrol of muscular and sturdily built wild-cats pounced on the wolves, viciously clawing and scratching until the beasts had finally been fended away. -They... They saved me!- She thought as the cats emerged from the battle, bloody but triumphant. They were now approaching her, taking long strides with those powerful legs. She was just about to sing her praises and thanks for saving her to them when one of them snarled, "What is your business here?" Startled, she quickly realized that her saviors were just worried about themselves, and were willing to even kill her to protect their territory. As the she-cat was about to respond, she noticed huge injuries on all of the cats surrounding her. "I was just running from those wolves... You saved me!! To repay you, I offer my healing skills. It looks like a bunch of you have injuries, and-" "How can we know you can actually heal us?" She sighed- can't these cats ever learn trust?- and plucked a plant that grew next to her. She chewed it up, and placed it on the questioning cat's wounds. She smiled as he sighed in relief. Her medicinal abilities could really help these cats. The patrol conversed for a few seconds, then the top cat of the group, the CliffClan deputy, approached her. "Come with us." Soon she found herself in the CliffClan camp, surrounded by dozens of injured cats and a leader gazing down at her. Some were curious. Some were angry. Some hoped that she would stay and fall in love. Some wanted to kill her. But the leader seemed interested. The light of early dawn played on her soft pelt, making the she-cat radiate a healthy and heavenly glow. After the deputy had recounted the story of the wolves, the leader smiled. She had recently received a dream from StarClan saying that a cat with a glowing pelt in the dawn-light will be the new medicine cat. She would have many adventures, and die nobly as a CliffClan cat. This must be the cat she heard of in her dream. "Behold, CliffClan! Our new medicine cat!" She gazed down at her. "Do you have a name?" She shook her head sadly. "Then from now until forever, our new medicine will be called Heatherdawn!" Heatherdawn's mind swirled as she recounted her luck. Her name was being chanted. She had a name! All of these cats around her are her family now! When she leaves this world, other cats will mourn her and remember her. She will be loved. This was where she really belonged. Her thoughts were drowned out by the chanting of her new name and congratulations from her new family.
