The game takes place after the events of Sonic Mania, where Dr. Eggman manages to collect every powerful gem, uncluding the Chaos and Super emeralds, the Time Stones, the Master Emerald and the Phantom Ruby to use them in Death Egg Ultra, his new ultimate fortress. However, little did Dr. Eggman new that such power could lead to the absoloute destruction, meaning that every island Sonic has ever went to confront Dr. Eggman, is now fused to one new island, the Nexus Island. Will Sonic and his team manage to take all the gems to prevent Dr. Eggman from stealing them?
