This is my cat, his name is Loki. This morning at about 7:50 AM (when only my little sister [who is 7 years old] was awake), he had a seizure, and was walking in circles, occasionally falling down, as his back half just didn't seem to be working. My sister, noticing something was very wrong, instantly ran upstairs and woke my parents. I woke up on my own a little later, just before he left for the Emergency Vet. After my Mom had left with Loki, my Dad informed me of what was happening (that's how I found out about the whole 'walking in circles' thing). I cried for probably a total of, like, 20-30 minutes straight. (I would cry more later.) We soon got an update that Loki was alive and fairly stable at the vet. We were so relieved. The vet didn't know what caused the stroke, and the only way to tell would put Loki through some pretty tough stuff, so we're assuming that it was/is a brain tumor that caused the seizure. My Mom came home a little while later, and she said that she got to see Loki, and he wasn't really focusing on things, just kinda staring into space. She also said that when he tried to stand up, he fell back down again. The vet called a little later saying that they wanted to give Loki some medicine (Neurontin) for the seizure, but they said that it usually has side effects. One of those side effects was extra fluid around the heart area, which would make Loki's heart work extra hard to keep him alive and breathing. Meaning that if we gave him the Neurontin, we run the risk of his heart stopping from working too hard. The vet said that we could go in and see him before they gave him the medicine, in case things took a turn for the worse. And so we went in. When we went to go see him, Loki looked a LOT better. He was picking up his head now, doing the little 'paw hugs' thing where he dug his claws into the blanket and then sheathed them again, and he was clearly focusing on all of us. He even pushed himself up a little bit with his front paws in order to check out my Dad (who was standing a bit off to the side). The vet said that seeing us, his family, definitely helped Loki. We had to leave soon after that, and my Mom is currently still at the vet, waiting to hear how Loki reacts to the medicine, and whether or not we will be able to take him home today. The vet said that it usually takes about 30 minutes to get a reaction from the medicine, and it's definitely been at least 30 minutes since we left the Vet, and we still haven't heard anything.
UPDATE: He is coming home today (April 27th, 2025)! My little baby bean is gonna be okay, my Mom is just going to have to give him a pill twice a day to decrease the chances that Loki has another seizure. He was such a good boy for the vet (they even sent us a picture of him all cuddled up in his little enclosure [I don't have that picture, I would add it to the project if I did])!
