The wind was cold, and it was lightly snowing. Every step was heard with the crunches of snow, Mothstar checked the borders between MistClan and SongClan, carefully sniffing over. The moonlight shined through the clouds, and onto the snow, making it glimmer slightly. A rustle was heard, and Mothstar hissed, only for Moonstar to step out “Greetings, Mothstar. May we speak?” he looked pretty famished, his gaze meeting here. “Alright, fine. What could you need?” She sat down in the snow, and Moonstar sighed “Leaf-bare has been very hard for all the Clans, but SongClan… is experiencing more loss than usual. The rivers are frozen, making it impossible to catch fish, and there are less mice. The Clan is suffering, we already lost our only apprentice, Mousepaw, and with no prey… SongClan might die out completely.” Mothstar stood in shock, she looked at him with sympathy “I get that your clan is suffering, Moonstar. But simply giving you prey… is not a sufficient resolution. Prey is scarce for all of us. We need to make sure each Clan survives, but with such little prey out, it’ll be a great disadvantage for our Clan to give you prey. I would like to help, but…” she trailed off, and her gaze shifted. Mothstar was clearly clueless on what to do. “Please…” Moonstar begged “I don’t want to lose what is so important to me. If StarClan is watching me right now, please forgive my incompetence as a leader, as I can’t save my rotting Clan.” He bowed his head, and there was silence for a while. Moonstar spoke again “My whole life has already been a curse, spreading to things I can’t control. The absence of an eye, horrible accidents once I became deputy, and now only 4 moons as leader, my Clan is rotting from it. The cold will swallow everything, as it’s what the curse wants.” Mothstar didn’t say anything, the snow kept falling at the same slow pace. Her gaze met back at Moonstar’s, her eyes filled with sorrow for the poor tom. “I’m… sorry.” She headed back to MistClan, leaving him there. Moonstar sighed, and carefully walked back to SongClan *** Mothstar entered the medicine cat’s den, resting on one of the nests. “What’s wrong this time?” Webpelt approached her with a worried expression. “Webpelt… the Clans are in far more trouble than I expected from this leaf-bare. SongClan is starting to fall heavier than before.” Webpelt nodded “It’s a hard time for all of us. But what do you mean by fall?” She looked at him “It’s… going extinct if I don’t help. But giving away prey puts my Clan at a disadvantage, as they will be just as scrawny. But again, I don’t want to let Moonstar down. What should I do?” The medicine cat sighed and sat next to her “Maybe the best thing to do… is follow wherever your heart desires, blessed by StarClan.” He yawned “I’ll… talk about it more at sunrise.” Webpelt went in another nest, curled up and slept. Leaving Mothstar staring at the moon, with a giant decision in her paws.
