The Astronomical Leviathan is the most terrifying leviathan of Planet 496, lurking deep within the True Void. A relative of the Mile Leviathan, it possesses two extendable jaws that can fire out to seize prey, dragging them into its gaping maw. These jaws function similarly to those of a goblin shark, launching with explosive speed before snapping shut. Unlike its smaller relatives, the Astronomical Leviathan’s body is segmented with thick, red & blue overlapping plates, allowing for both flexibility and resilience in the crushing depths. Cracks between these armored segments facilitate cutaneous respiration, enabling it to absorb oxygen directly from the water. The creature is marked by two imposing horns, one protruding from its snout and another arched above its back eyes, giving it an imposing, ancient appearance. The leviathan is equipped with 4 bioluminescent eyes along with bioluminescent nodes run along its body, pulsating with eerie light in the pitch-black depths, serving as lures. The Astronomical Leviathan remains in a near-dormant state for most of its existence, anchoring itself to towering rock formations in the True Void using its two powerful arms. These appendages allow it to latch onto terrain and hibernate undisturbed, conserving energy for extended periods. However, once a year, this behemoth ascends from the abyss for an event known as The Great Famine, a three-day-long feeding frenzy where it devours everything in sight. This period is crucial for sustaining its massive size, as prey becomes scarce in the True Void. When it rises, it churns the water violently, generating immense turbulence that disrupts potential predators and rivals, particularly the Vuno Leviathan. A long-standing enmity exists between the Astronomical Leviathan and the Vuno Leviathan. Millennia ago, the Astronomical Leviathan’s kind nearly wiped out the Vuno, consuming vast numbers of their species. In retaliation, the surviving Vuno waged war against their colossal adversaries, exterminating as many as they could. Now, only one of each species remains, eternal enemies in a struggle for dominance. When the Astronomical Leviathan surfaces for The Great Famine, the Vuno Leviathan often appears, waiting for an opportunity to strike. However, the turbulence caused by the Astronomical’s movements makes direct confrontation difficult, ensuring their battle remains an unpredictable, ongoing clash of titans.
