The YAL-1 was a modified Boeing 747 first flown in 2002 bearing a laser powerful enough to destroy a missile. It was test-fired in 2009 and by 2010 was engaging test missiles. However, the program was canceled in 2011 and the aircraft scrapped in 2014.
