Televizioni për Popullin e Tiranës ("Television for the People of Tirana" in English), TPT, is an Albanian television station based in Tirana, operating on VHF channel 2. The channel was launched in 1977 as a private station after an agreement between the government of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania and the recently launched TPT Foundation to launch a TV station in Tirana, made to promote the Albanian culture around the country. The channel was publicized in Dec. 1991 after the Cold War drew closer to its end and socialism was lifted from the country. The channel's newer, broader purpose is to invoke a sense of awe into the culture of the Albanians all around the Mediterranean in cable packets and the like.
